Susan Hall was never an even remotely credible candidate. That she was selected speaks volumes about lack of quality in the today's Tory party.

Labour win West Midlands mayor contest.

The main take away for me from these results, is that the electorate want the Tories out of power. In total share of the vote they fell by 12 percent.

Labour, LD, Greens and independents shared this 12% almost equally amongst themselves. None of them was a clear winner or preferred choice for disaffected Tory voters. In a way, I am glad about that, as the people who have traditionally voted Tory have always been essentially self interested and weak on social responsibility (in my view) and I do not want them to get behind any one dubious ideology that could disrupt more rational democratic process.

The Tories were hoping that Andy Street's personal popularity would see them home, like it did for Ben Houchen in Tees Valley...
Unfortunately for them, it wasn't enough in the West Midlands.....

Which ever way you cut it, the GE looks grim for them....
Suspect this means we won't be getting the big vote until Nov/Dec/Jan...
They'll be spending the next 6 months lining their pockets and finalising their exit strategies...
