Have you introduced the concept of Peak Oil to other forums?

I'm slowly introducing it to singletrackworld's forum. It's a mountain biking forum.

I talk about it alot on ItsNotEasyBeingGreen, as do others.

Where else are you introducing Peak Oil?

I was wondering last night if Universities have Peak Oil societies yet? If not how could they be introduced?

I mentioned PO on two horsey forums and got quite an enlightened response. One is a forum based in Canada and the other in England!

Some really switched on responses! .... Ran to several pages before it fell down the listings...

I have introduced it to Psy Forum, a psychedelic dance music forum.

Some people on there have already heard of it but generally it isn't well understood.

I have a lot of fun on there ribbing people for their ignorance, because it is supposed to be a community of 'hippies' who should all be well up to speed on this stuff!

I've just been looking at the bbc "have your say" forum and I've never seen such a bunch of climate deniers. Its like the daily mail gone mad.
quotes such as "its just an excuse to tax us" or "its a way for tree huggers to scare us all" abound. Talk about insular attitudes- Yes the warm weather at the moment is pleasant but its going to have a serious effect on UK (never mind the rest of the world) farming. Just shows that all the talk of "green" issues has never managed to get over the ecological argument. Thatchers "there's no such thing as society" quote has never seemed so real....

Ha, ha, ha, don't know about you but I was brought up to believe that the BBC was one of the most instrumental perveyors of truth on this planet!

Now when ever I watch the words HIGHLY SENSORED tend to screach out of the screen. Its no wonder really that those people posting on the BBC forum are so sceptical of any bad news. Suppose it would be interesting to go on the forum just to get a flavour of the popular mood but as the famous saying goes "I haven't got the time" (what a marvellous excuse).

i introduced it to cyclingplus.co.uk (cyclign forum obviously) and uk-mkivs.net (golf/bora MKIV/V forum)

got the same response as most people give....

I talked about it on the Farmers weekly forum and just recently on the Idler forum (comes out of book How to be Free)
a couple of people on there comented how good this site is!

Yes, I see the BBC as being tied in what it can and can't see. The news especially. The taint put on the news. Maybe it's simply impartiality at work.

Not a forum, but I went to the Ecology Building Society AGM in Oxford at the weekend and Peak Oil was mentioned in passing by one of the speakers. I asked the board, at question time, if they were looking at plans to mitigate the effect of PO on the society. They said that they had some statuary things to look at first but that they would look into it after that.

The interesting thing was the number of cries of "What's he talking about? and What's that? from the rest of the members, mainly the older ones.

Speaking to some of the board afterwards, they seemed to know what PO was but hadn't realised the effect it could have on the economy and the economic system by leading to negative growth.

Interesting . . . just heard of some anecdotal evidence of people who understand PO.

On Psy Forum a guy has just posted up something saying his friend who works as an environmental advisor for the RSPB has said that PO has come and gone and that she foresees serious problems hitting the UK and other countries within 3 years.

Not just us, then . . .
