News report re above. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-67070389
"Installers and owners of emergency diesels must assume that they will have to run for a week or more"
Re: Ukraine Watch...
Russia has begun an offensive in an attempt to encircle Avdiivka, which has been partially encircled for over a year. Although there is footage of Russian vehicles burning, there does seem to be a shortage of Ukrainian artillery and Sam coverage to stop all the Russian helicopters and troop advances. Ukraine will need to bring in reserves to hold the town. Russian drones are becoming more widespread and effective.

Almost certain retribution by Putin after Finland joined NATO. (Have they formally joined yet?). Taking the opportunity whilst the west is distracted by Israel, daring Finland to call on NATO intervention.
I rate an attack on UK undersea energy/data infrastructure is all but inevitable now. This week UK is testing, rehearsing our oil spill response: https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/uk- ... oil-spill/
Re: Ukraine Watch...
The Russian offensive around Avdiivka has only made marginal gains in 5 days, reportedly with very heavy losses in armoured vehicles and tanks. Quite a lot of drone footage of columns being attacked. Soma analysts are saying that poorly trained troops are being used resulting in very high casualties, not least due to poor medical care and evacuation. In other words, usual Russian tactics.
Given the extremely well dug in Ukrainian troops, and reports that they were aware in advance of the attack, that this was a poor choice of target, of more symbolic or political importance, than military.
Elsewhere, little happening, although persistent rumours of Russian naval vessels being attacked and damaged. It is suspected that Russia is conserving missiles forrenewed winter attacks on civilian infrastructure.
Reports of a thousand containers of presumed ammunition and shells being delivered from North Korea. Quality control uncertain.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
Ukraine seems to have been eclipsed by the Israel/Gaza situation. Is this the moment that ‘the West’ quietly throws Zelensky under the bus and the ‘temporary’ defunding of yet another failed American attempt to impose itself on an indifferent world reveals the farce it always was?

‘The West’ seems to be almost down to the last Ukrainian and with no hope of getting back to a pre 2014 situation on the ground.
It’s criminal that we incited them to this doomed attempt instead of keeping to the Minsk agreements and thereby saving hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths and the total ruin of the country.
I hope you’re all happy with the way things have gone.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
The hundreds of thousands of deaths are the sole responsibility of one (Russian) man. Poland election has probably return Donald Tusk to power. Who will undoubtedly be more supportive of Ukraine.

No. It’s been brewing for decades. But the 2022 invasion was the project of one man, the one man in Russia with the power to make it happen. He heard rhe siren call of the ultranationalists and saw in it his legacy to history. He has certainly made history, he has changed Russia’s place in the world for worse for many decades to come.

In the rest of your post you’re simply regurgitating the ‘Russia Bad’ propaganda that you’ve swallowed though.

No signs of abandoning it?UndercoverElephant wrote: ↑19 Oct 2023, 08:14You are deep in delusion. Ukraine continues to make slow gains, and the west shows no sign of abandoning it. That war will continue until the Russian military collapses. I see no sign whatsoever of a failure of western resolve. Ukraine just started using ATACMS with great successDefault0ptions wrote: ↑18 Oct 2023, 21:49
The Ukraine war looked scary for a while - it’s pretty much over now as ‘The West’ accepts its failure and abandons its funding of the Ukraine - and so we move on to the next crisis.
“Lawmakers on Capitol Hill rebuffed ongoing pleas by the administration to include new assistance for Ukraine in a stopgap funding measure, deeply disappointing many supporters of Kyiv and leaving the future of US support for the country uncertain.
A top official from the Pentagon told lawmakers on Friday the Department of Defense “has exhausted nearly all available security assistance funding for Ukraine,”

Deep in delusion?
“Support for funding the West's proxy war against Russia in Ukraine has been sagging, particularly in the wake of a vaunted Ukraine counteroffensive that has resulted in a net loss of territory. Last month, an amendment that would prohibit any more military aid to Ukraine won the support of 93 Republicans...and zero Democrats. That was a gain of 23 votes from a similar resolution offered in July.”

Ukraine continues to make slow gains?
‘The [New York] Times finds that "Less territory changed hands in August than in any other month of the war" and that "While Ukraine made small gains in the south, Russia took slightly more land overall, mostly in the northeast." And in total, the report says, "When both sides’ gains are added up, Russia now controls nearly 200 square miles more territory in Ukraine compared with the start of the year."’

Re: Ukraine Watch...
There is no sign whatsoever of either Ukraine or its western backers being prepared to end this war. Russia remains on the back foot.
I can't be bothered to have this discussion. I don't know how you arrive at the conclusions you arrive at, and I don't care. You are perpetually clutching at straws.

We’re going to differ on this. I agree it’s a discussion that’s not going anywhere. Time will tell.UndercoverElephant wrote: ↑19 Oct 2023, 21:45 There is no sign whatsoever of either Ukraine or its western backers being prepared to end this war. Russia remains on the back foot.
