On days like this I fear we will not leave depopulation of the human race to Mother Nature. We will fight like rats in a sack until the rats have grown fat on our charred remains. And then the rats will fight like rats in a sack when their own population explosion hits its own Seneca cliff. At least the worms will feed well.

There are approx. 2 million people living in Gaza...., of which approx. 1,500 have died so far....
Most of the 2M will survive the current crisis but many will spill out into neighbouring countries like Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon to continue the conflict.... This may not be in Israel's best interests, as things have been relatively quiet on those borders for quite a few years now...
The only long term solution is a diplomatic one, even though it seems a very long way off at the mo...

Recent events have swayed me in a similar direction. It is not impossible that we will see a global war where depopulation of the other side is a deliberate goal, not just a strategy to break their will. And Israel is one of the main candidates to be the epicentre.

Also: breaking news that Hamas have told residents to leave the Israeli city of Ashkelon. Is this just warning of a rocket attack? Sounds more menacing than that.

I suspect it is just tit for tat rhetoric after Israel told residents to flee Gaza after blockading the borders.

What amazes me is the number of useful idiots on the left supporting the Palestinian cause in London. Hamas couldn't care less about them.

I think this is the end of Gaza Strip, Israel will occupy the whole territory over the coming weeks, leading to 10,000+ deaths and a million+ refugees. Where will they go? Egypt, Syria, Saudi?

When the dust settles in a couple months, there aren't going to 2 million+ Palestinians living there anymore and there won't be an independent administration.

Where can they go? They can’t walk across the desert to Egypt, or swim the Med. They won’t be allowed through Israel, and very few of them will fly out. Israel would have to put them on boats and set them adrift, a whole boat people refugee crisis.

Short of genocide, They are going to stay there.

If a million people leave it could be by boat to Port Said, or by bus from the Rafah crossing? Some could be bussed across southern Israel into Jordan? Don't know - but I can't see Israel enabling anything like the existing Gaza Strip to persist.

Yep. 2 million refugees with nowhere to go. And that won't be the end of it. This is a massive escalation in the long-term conflict between Islam and the western world.

BBC is reporting the US, Egypt, Israel and the UN are in talks about allowing people out. I guess they will try to walk to Egypt.

If they stay there they are going to be killed.

I don't really take a side on this. In a younger day I was probably more pro-Israel until my uncle told me that his cousin died while serving as conscripted British soldier as a result of Jewish terrorism in the pre-1948 British mandate. Israel has taken too much land from the Palestinians for there to be a peace settlement.

The mods are not going to like the next bit but secretly you know I tell the truth.
I cannot think of any two worse races/cultures of people in the world than Arabs and Jews - well maybe Irish travelers. They have inflicted terrible influences and damage on the rest of the world. Jews having invented Communism and the Arabs having invented Islam. They truly deserve each other as neighbours. They both have a terrible attitude to other races and religions. There is very little to choose between them but on balance the Jews pose a lower threat to the West.

I hear that some people are trying to justify the Hamas attack in the change in access to the Al-Aqsa mosque. From what I understand this was built on an old Jewish temple. The Muslims have previous form of taking building and sites from other religions such as the site at Ayodha in India and the Hagia Sophia in present day Turkey.

Also all the aid, 1.5bn dollars in annual aid to the 2.4 million Palestinians in Gaza only amounts to $600 per person per annum. Barely the GDP of Burundi for a population growing at a high annual rate.

The creation of the State of Israel was probably the greatest geopolitical blunder of the West except allowing large amounts of non-white and non-Christian Third-World immigration to Western countries and Britain played a very large role in this.

BDU, over the years you've posted against pretty much everybody on the planet...
But you always conveniently forget that by your logic, the land you happen to live on belongs to the Aboriginals....
You're basically a white supremacist....
Unless they're Russian..., or French...., or German...

You're of course free to your opinions, but this is the type of mindset breeds conflict, rather than peace and harmony...
Whether we like it or not, most of us now live in multicultural environments, so we need to learn to get on with each other...
We'll see the alternative played out over the next few weeks in Gaza....

So Israel has warned 1.1 million people to flee Gaza in 24 hours.

How? Where are they supposed to go? How are they supposed to get there? Fly? What are they going to do after the deadline expires?

Are we about to see the genocide in real time of 1.1 million people? If so, we are heading straight for World War 3.

I also wouldn't like to be a Jewish person or Israeli outside Israel. Anywhere.

With regards to the aid Austria stopping aid payments got the briefest mention on the radio 4 news and I haven't seen it discussed in other news outlets although I could just have missed it..
