Re: Ukraine Watch...
“Yeah, but those examples come from a truly modern military power.”
But not Russia. Another ludicrous example of propaganda here:
“Warmonger Putin pounds Ukraine's Kherson province with missile blitz which kills two people and wounds three others as Russia's barbaric invasion rumbles into its 20th month”
OMG! If it killed two people and wounded three more then where’s this ‘pounding missile blitz’ actually hitting? Because it’s totally failing to mercilessly slaughter the innocent in their homes.
Imagine a ‘pounding missile blitz’ in the middle of a ‘barbaric invasion’ that only kills two and wounds three.
Is the headline just click bait? Or do people actually swallow this stuff?

Slovakian election puts pro Russian illiberal party in first place with about 23% of the vote. No guarantee they will be able to form a coalition and take power. Not good for EU unity
Re: Ukraine Watch...
In a similar mould to Viktor Orban. This election and the upcoming election in Poland could be pretty challenging for the EU.
Re: Ukraine Watch...
I wonder if the US had anything to do with Azerbaijan's invasion of Nagorno-Karabakh?
Re: Ukraine Watch...
Much more likely it was Turkey. Very much the up and coming power broker in the area. The southern tip of Armenia might be the next flash point, currently it provides a north south axis from Russia to Iran. Azerbaijan would like to cut it to form an east west link with Turkey.
Re: Ukraine Watch...
The annual farce of the US government budget crisis has been delayed by an interim US budget deal brokered with the Republicans which excludes any further funding for Ukraine.
Re: Ukraine Watch...
As the autumn rain and mud sets in I think we have to say that Ukraine’s summer offensive has gained less ground than hoped for. The intensity of the fighting on the front line is slowing, as is the bombing and artillery, certainly from the Russians, and maybe from the Ukrainians. Fighting may pick up when (if) the winter freeze sets in. With more months to reform defensive lines, it will be even harder for Ukraine to evict the invaders from their country in future offensives.
There is no doubt that Russia has lost vast amounts of Cold War era hardware, and shown themselves to be a paper tiger in global terms. They have again proven their cultural temperament to wear down their enemies with their fatalism and tolerance of massive suffering and casualties. Like all wars, they have learned a lot and are not making as many stupid mistakes as they did in the early phases, but it is hard to know how long they will stick it out before they realise that Ukraine will not give up. It took a decade in Afghanistan.
Russia is rapidly losing influence in the ex soviet republics to the south, even as the war loses popularity in some European countries. Russian oil will still buy Putin a lot of influence on the global scale, but they are now a resource to be exploited, not a superpower to be placated.

You are assuming than both Georgia & Armenia will allow transit between Russia and Iran.Much more likely it was Turkey. Very much the up and coming power broker in the area. Multiple pro Ukrainian u tube commentators are being effectively silenced by having their videos accused of being in breach of copyright, by an anonymous copyright holder. These are clearly spurious claims, but Utube automatically takes down the videos until the complaint is investigated, and a two stage appeal process is completed. A process that takes up to 90 days. This makes the videos as news channels useless.

So censorship is bad when it’s your preferred sources being taken down huh?Ralphw2 wrote: ↑01 Oct 2023, 20:06 Multiple pro Ukrainian u tube commentators are being effectively silenced by having their videos accused of being in breach of copyright, by an anonymous copyright holder. In the olden days when I was young and there were dinosaurs we just used to be allowed to make our own minds up about stuff we heard or read.
We called it ‘informed democracy’ and ‘freedom of speech’.
Still we know better now. Just as long as we agree with whoever is allowed to label and take down stuff as ‘disinformation’
Enjoy!

Headline click bait of the day:

The only thing that I wonder about is that anyone is surprised by this
It was always such a great idea for a block of consumer economies to think they could sanction one of the main producer economies that they relied on without shooting them selves in both feet.
“Russian oil smashes through the G7 price cap as crude exports in July hit the highest level of 2023”
https://markets.businessinsider.com/new ... 023-8?op=1
We voluntarily cut ourselves off from all that cheap energy that we need so badly.
And someone blew up nordstream just to make sure we couldn’t change our minds

Re: Ukraine Watch...
Indeed.
“EU ministers visit nervous Kyiv as US pauses aid for Ukraine”
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/russ ... -tpp268tpq
“Poland halts arms supply to Ukraine”
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/pola ... -wl0mkvzp2
And this is just the beginning of the end.
I might just have happened to mention previously that this was in the cards.
Still, plenty of time left to prove me wrong.
