Re: Conservative government watch
It's a sticky problem. All those potential Labour voting folk, trying to make ends meet, driving clapped out diesel
cars and vans, they cannot afford to replace, which are poisoning their own environments including their children's schools!
Well one step forward would be making it easier for them to make ends meet.
He needs to adopt a friends of Harry Perkins tone and say that in a Socialist Britain everyone will drive an EV?

Re: Conservative government watch
She is an embarrassment on every level. Nobody is on her side. The tories have disowned her and her actions invite no sympathy whatsoever. She's a whining, (not!) entitled bitch.

I hope it doesn't succeed and the embarrassment for the Tories continues on and on and on. When your enemy is making mistakes, don't interrupt them.Mark wrote: ↑07 Aug 2023, 15:21 Nadine Dorries faces move to force her out of Parliament:

Dories has finally resigned, accusing the PM of putting her in danger by publicly criticising her.
Re: Conservative government watch
Rather than serving her constituents, she's apparently been writing her new book, called The Plot: The Political Assassination of Boris Johnson...

Time being called on yet another one....
It's the 9th by-election since Rishi Sunak became PM.....
How many is that now in this Parliament - 15? 20?

His name, Pincher, is just the icing on the cake in this story
Re: Conservative government watch
A potential break away group of Tory mps led by Liz Truss called the Growth Group is calling for major spending and tax cuts. They number about 60, the same as the Tory majority.
Sunak is reported by itv to be cancelling HS2, which will go down like a lead balloon with the red wall Tory mps.
Will the government last until 2024?
(I have seen a myth busters video where they built a lead balloon that floated)

These few days in Manchester promise to be more of a very public psychiatric group therapy session
of uncertain outcome than a grown up political party conference.

Her inability to learn from her mistakes is really quite something. I know a few others who suffer from it as badly as she does, but they don't hold down full employment. She appears to genuinely not understand that if the her policies were enacted again, they would produce the same result as before.
Her speech today: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-66836347
"My mistake was try to fatten the pig on market day."
No, Liz. Your mistake was believing there is still a pig at all. Your party has already eaten the pig.

Re: Conservative government watch
I've watched quite a bit of the Tory party conference today - wow, it's so 'light weight'!! Hunt, the Chancellor, his speech was less than 20 minutes with basically no announcements, just repeating recent ONS data about how good our economy is, but, taxes are too high (and will stay high) 'cos of Covid and war... His speech was pathetic compared to anything Osborne or Brown had delivered at conference.
The room seems half empty - the theme is 'long-term decisions'. But what are they?
The whole thing is just a bit embarrassing.

Re: Conservative government watch
It’s gone beyond bread and circuses and descended into absolute farce.
“Democracy: the best government that money can buy”
“The money” doesn’t even have to care about putting on more than a clown show now.
