Remote driving of vehicles from abroad to be banned.

Our transport is heavily oil-based. What are the alternatives?

Remote driving of vehicles from abroad to be banned.

Post by adam2 »

Until reading this https://eandt.theiet.org/content/articl ... nt-review/

I did not realise that remote control from oversea, of vehicles on UK roads was becoming more popular. I can see the attraction in paying less than £1 an hour in a low wage economy instead of about £10 an hour for a UK driver. Taxicabs and the home delivery of on line purchases are obvious applications.

The risks to public safety appear considerable, with no effective controls as to the competence of the remote operator, the reliability of the data connection, the degree of latency in the connection, or the accuracy of the actuators that remotely operate the vehicle controls.

In my view this practice should be prohibited, at perhaps only allowed under very restricted conditions for experimental purposes.
