Sounds quite an interesting person going from Labour to Conservatives but at least he was born and educated in the constituency he represents which is rare for Conservatives. I would probably vote for him if I had the dubious honour of living in Ashfield. I get to vote for Pauline Hanson instead.

Causing a confrontation with the French over this is probably not the best idea. Machine gunning a few boats would probably do the trick and if the French got in the way well, too bad.

A small marine drone with a sharp spike sticking up would be a lot safer for both the illegals and the French and would be much more deniable. Send it into French waters to puncture the dingies so they start to sink in French waters with a French boat nearby to pick up the illegals and take them back.

Do that a few times and it might put people off taking to the boats.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is being investigated by Parliament's standards watchdog over a possible failure to declare an interest. Mr Sunak is being investigated over whether a declaration of interest was "open and frank", under rules set out by the commissioner for standards.

The BBC understands the probe relates to a childcare firm his wife has shares in. The commissioner decides whether an MP has broken rules after an inquiry. A Downing Street spokesperson said: "We are happy to assist the commissioner to clarify how this has been transparently declared as a ministerial interest."

They're already #222 on The Sunday Times UK Rich List, with a reported net worth of £730 million.....

I suspect his wife will have shares in a huge number of companies, mostly for tax reduction reasons, and she probably has little direct input into their management, leaving that to her team of accountants, who may not be fully up to speed on the niceties of financial rules for the spouse of a uk prime minister. Which just goes to show that our pm moves in circles where only the little people have to worry about money at all, over than as bragging rights among their peers.

There's a program on SBS News (edited) at the moment about Rupert Murdoch. Allegedly Murdoch does all his business activities for the influence and not the money. For some people power is more important than money.

Absolutely. Extreme wealth is not about ever larger personal consumption, it's about the power, the influence, the mega rich shape the world. They buy and influence media like newspapers or Twitter etc. Consumption wealth doesn't need to be more than a few million, 'power wealth' is another category altogether.
