BMW has not quit production in the UK , the Cowley plant is currently still expected to be producing mini's until 2030, a new model is still scheduled to start production at Cowley in 2025 . BMW are moving the production of electric mini's to China and a new electric model of the countryman will be built in leipzig.

I am not sure I would believe a bloke with a thick Indian accent on a YouTube channel any more than I would believe a bloke with a thick Indian accent who phones me up claiming to be from "Microsoft" or "Windows".
More mainstream news outlets are claiming that electric Mini's are going to be made in China which is one more reason why I would never touch a BMW, especially a BMW made in China. The main reason why I did not buy a Tesla was that the ones for sale in Australia are made in China.

We had to get rid of a newly bought "British" generator which was made in China because it rattled itself to pieces. The retailer gave us our money back in the end because they were fed up with having to come out to repair the damn thing. I presume they got their money back from the "manufacturer". I would be very wary of buying anything mechanical made in China.

I would not say that everything Made in China is bad. I have bought some items off websites that have been excellent and Made in China but I have also got some rubbish.
What bothers me from living in Australia is that you are doing business with a country that has trade embargoes against Australia and has obvious double standards regarding trade, IP theft, indulges in state hostage taking, general threats against its neighbours etc etc and I try to minimise my business where possible so getting a Korean electric car made in Korea, which is a good trade partner of Australia, rather than an American electric car, Made in China. I am not that bothered with their internal politics or their Uighur policy. If the people are repressed they should rise up.
I recall several projects outside China with gas power stations where there were a lot of issues with a boiler that was made somewhere in China and then worked on a project in China where they decided to get their boiler Made in Russia as it was more reliable and freely admitted the fact.
I have heard wage costs are rising so much in China there is a general exodus of manufacturing from the place.
British companies getting stuff contract made in China are really signing their own death warrant in my opinion.
The exodus of manufacturing from the UK should be taken very seriously though and be of great concern to the government.

China are making some of the best electric vehicles on the planet. Tesla and MG are popular western brands (made in China) but also there are a lot more Chinese brands set to repeat the Japanese and South Korean trick of outcompeting western brands in the EV market.kenneal - lagger wrote: ↑30 Oct 2022, 23:33 I would be very wary of buying anything mechanical made in China.
Point with China is that they can make state of the art stuff - they are currently building a space station, they have a robot rolling around on the Moon etc they build iPhones and Teslas... but they also build crap. They make profit from the state of the art and the crap. Who's at 'fault' here? China building profitable crap or their customers for buying it?
The sad truth is a lot of people, when given the choice will chose the cheap crap. China are only stepping up to meet that demand - like the good capitalists they are!

With China there is no trust. There is no way of enforcing quality control or even compliance or enforcing international agreements. They including their government will say one thing and do another. They will sign a Free Trade agreement and then block ranges of products even if it causes energy shortages for their economy.
I recall the way they killed all the sparrows not knowing they ate most of the insects that eat crops. Jump to conclusions, impossible to change policy to avoid losing face.
I recall from the Fully Charged show that they are indeed making nice electric cars. I have heard that the electric MG drives like a brick but does have Vehicle to Grid capability. One area that they are way ahead of the rest of the world is in Electric Buses. They have something like 98% of the worlds total. The upside of Communism in China is that they think long term and plan well.
I also hear former RAF pilots are training their military. I think someone needs to lose their gold plated state pension over that one.
