I was watching a lot of the love coverage last night. The impacts are incredible, the storm surge and flooding will impact hundreds of thousands of people. In the long term, Florida as we know it is doomed. Sea level rise and increased storm intensity will be too much to 'adapt' to.

According to Florida politicians all that sea level rise stuff and global warming is a load of nonsense! Ironic that they are the first to suffer badly from the phenomena! Also they are going cap in hand to Biden to ask for socialist style support to repair the damage. I hope he reminds them of this.

As they say in the States, "It's just weather!"

What's causing it is another discussion but my bet is on climate change, especially if they get even more destructive storms.

I don't think we have any way of knowing if, in a 2 or 3 degree warmer world EF-3+ tornados aren't 10x more frequent or that the frequency of large tornados over Oklahoma today won't be replicated over say Germany.

There wouldn't be any palaeoclimate data and I don't think current metrology understanding could rule it out.
