Re: Ukraine Watch...
Ukraine claims to have recaptured 3 villages. The war itself barely registers on the MSM at present. Looks like Putin has pressed the economic nuclear button with the shutting of the gas supply, so the Western leaders are down playing the link between prices and Ukraine. Support for Ukraine still strong in the UK according to polls.

Hmm ... I see fewer blue-yellow flags about.
Also many people I speak to in private have doubts about the Ukrainian case.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
I would have thought that stressing that we are in an economic war with Russia at the moment and cannot capitulate in the face of blackmail would be the way to go for politicians. Trying to decouple gas prices from Ukraine is rather like Putin insisting on his Special Military Operation rather than war.

My view is that a Tory government decided to occupy the moral highground and send the bill to the poor. Maybe it's not that black and white, god knows.
Persistence of habitat, is the fundamental basis of persistence of a species.
Re: Ukraine Watch...
Ukraine is reporting regaining control of small areas on a broad front both in Kherson and Donbas. It is not clear if these small gains are being held, or later relinquished again. Plenty of online drone videos purporting to show attacks on Russian armour and soldiers, but all small scale stuff. None of the turkey shoots we saw north of Kiev in the early days. There is growing evidence that all the bridges to the Kherson region have been blown, although ferries and pontoons may still be operating.
Reports that Russia is buying huge amounts of missile and rockets from North Korea, as they have 70 years worth of old stock from the most militarised country on the planet, as fraction of GDP.
It is unlikely that Ukraine will make huge gains before the weather turns, but it is just possible that large numbers of Russian troops will surrender when they realise they cut off and out of ammo.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
I have read that huge numbers of boh Russian & Ukrainian troops are moving to contest the Kherson line.
Also, the Russian 3rd Army (???) is moving into Donbass.
I expect a major bust up in the next few weeks.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
The Russian 3rd Army consists of partially trained new troops and really old equipment. The Ukrainians are likely to blow most of them up before they get within 50 miles of the front line. US satellites will show exactly where they are and the Ukrainians will have that position within minutes so as soon as they concentrate anywhere near the front line they will be bombarded. If they do get to the front they are only going to be cannon fodder.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
If that were to happen it would be more likely be 15 km or nearer to the front line.within 50 miles of the front line.
Also Russia already has about a 10-to-1 advantage in artillery.
I saw one interview of a Ukrainian soldier who spent 90% of his time in a drainpipe.
A large mob of guys turning up with old tanks which can STILL fire things which go bang could ruin your entire day.

Re: Ukraine Watch...
The HIMARS outranges all the Russian artillery which is why the Russians have been expending so much energy trying to kill them. They claim to have killed over twice the number of units that Ukraine has been delivered. Ukraine has been making their own HIMARS though which is probably where the confusion comes from but they have been making them from wood. The Russians have been using their limited numbers of hugely expensive missiles to blow up dummies!!

Re: Ukraine Watch...
Maybe arming Ukraine will be as wildly successful as our efforts as a consumer economy to sanction a major exporter
I’m watching.
The whole of Europe seems to be in collapse as a result of the policies so far
and Russia seems to be doing fine. And actually better off.

And if it was working so well why make this public announcement? Running out of wood?

Re: Ukraine Watch...
NATO is now supplying Ukraine with cold weather gear for the troops. I wouldn't be at all surprised if most of the Russian kit has been sold off by various oligarchs, generals, majors and all down to sergeants. Didn't Adam say that he saw Russian winter kit being sold on ebay last year. The Russian troops certainly didn't have any around Kyiv according to reports.
