I've got a Baxi installation on the opposite side of the wall to my stove. It's sealed up at the moment, but i've been trying to think of what to do with it and this idea of yours seemed workable. As with all Baxis there is an underfloor air supply controlled by a damper on the hearth which could be rejigged for burning solid fuel.
Do we rate the Baxi installation on this message board?
I've only just seen this post and, although it might be a bit late I think it needs a reply.
Baxi installations often didn't have a full chimney just a gas flue and so wouldn't be suitable for a solid fuel stove. A gas flue wouldn't have a chimney terminal at the roof just a vent tile.
You need to check the size and type of the flue before you decide whether to use it or not.

my house is about 200yr old and has proper chimneys with chimney pots.
Persistence of habitat, is the fundamental basis of persistence of a species.
You will probably have to take out the gas flue pipe, Mr B, that should have been installed with the baxi and install one suitable for a wood burning stove before you can make the change in heaters. The gas flue is very unlikely to be wide enough for a wood burning stove.
