My favourite anti-looting sign following a hurricane was "WARNING, TEENAGERS LOOSE WITH AUTOMATIC WEAPONS" Makes a change from "guard dogs loose"

Reports of another mass shooting, this time in Sacramento, but this one seems to have been a shoot out following an altercation in a bar: six dead and twelve wounded with probably two shooters. It happened after closing time.

Perhaps they could make a start on gun control by making an offence of "drunk in charge of a firearm."

I’m not sure that anything is gained by ever more specific laws.

Surely ‘drunk in a public space’ still suffices, if actually enforced.

I remember my grandad had a newspaper cutting on the wall in the downstairs loo about alcohol related crime being the result of ‘drinking on an empty head’.

Ha ha, i like it.

Could we say that invasion related atrocities are the result of governing on an empty head?

It’s a good quote :))

Atrocities. This is something we need to be careful about setting a low bar to.

You can Google for officially recognised civilian casualty figures inflicted by all nations over any time frame you choose.

If we accept to low a bar for what we count as an ‘atrocity ‘ - we might have to admit that we were just ‘sexing it up’

Official death figures in any war are always a small fraction of reality. No leads hip wants to admit their losses, military or civilian, for fear of lowering morale.

All war is an atrocity and this one was started by Putin and his inner circle.

Arizona to make filming a police officer within 8 feet an offence with up to 30 days in jail.

I have lost count of the mass shootings by teenagers and the shooting of unarmed Black men by police officers. Clearly some states think the solution is make evidence collection a crime.

TBH 8 feet is pretty close.

A camera won't miss much at that distance.

If someone stuck a camera in my face at under 8 feet separation I would be a bit peeved .. and I'm not a policeman on the permanent lookout for guns, knives etc.

There should be an exception for filming from within a vehicle.

You mean filming the police officer shooting you? I would agree with that.

Was anyone also struck by the fact that the US police arrested the potentially armed and definitely dangerous and murderous white Chicago shooter without firing a shot but fired about 60 rounds into a black motorist who was unarmed and not known to have recently shot a couple of dozen people?

Large numbers of people of people in Jackson, USA, are without safe water.

Water supply breakdowns happen fairly regularly, but this one is worse than the norm due firstly to the large numbers affected, and secondly because the problem has persisted for some time, and recurs regularly.

TPTB are giving out bottled water.

This should be a reminder to prepare with stocks of water, and with chlorine tablets, and with a gravity water filter.

Next week's CA heatwave is shaping up to be the real deal. Following on from India/Pakistan, China and Europe, it's been quite a northern hemisphere summer! What's Australia got coming?

Australia’s third La Niña is on its way. More rain and probably flooding but little chance of temperature maximums being broken. Probably no major bushfires either.
