PV Wall Mount Permission?

Hi,
I was on a ladder yesterday getting ready to fix a couple of PV panels to the wall; but I have started to wonder if I need planning permission?

Does anyone know? Andy - did you need permission?

Well I didn't apply for planning permission (ssshh . . . don't tell anyone) . . .

Someone told me after I had had them put up that I do need planning permission. However, none of my neighbours have said anything, nor has anyone from the Council. So it looks like I have got away with it.

If anyone does say anything, I will just say that it is a temporary structure as it isn't built into the fabric of the house, just bolted onto a wall. I will say that if I move, I will take them with me. Don't know if that will work, though.

Not sure what to recommend . . . do you think any of your neighbours might complain?

Andy - I dont think here would be any problem, they are on the side of the house, not street facing, unless you look down the side. However I had planned to put one on the front and that will be very visible.

Im going ahead anyway because all the bits have just arrived and I cant afford to have them roof mounted.

If it's a listed building or you are in a Conservation Area you may have a problem.

Best of luck mate. Mine are on the back of the house, so they aren't facing a road.

I have heard about loads of people putting this kind of thing up with no problems. It seems to be wind turbines that get people's backs up - probably because they project so far above the roof of the house.

I think people are more likely to view your panels with interest than with irritation.

Definitely.

But if not and on the rear and if you've not got any other extensions it will be permitted development.

Thanks everyone;

Its not listed or in a conservation area and there is a small utility room extension on the back so hopefully the side wall panels will be OK. The panel on the front is for a later stage anyway.

Ill let you know what happens.

You will almost definately need planning permission, esp if they are mounted at an angle. (not flush to the wall).

However, if anyone complains you can easily remove them I assume.
