The reported loss of Kherson is most regretable and significant setback for Ukraine.
On a more positive note, the huge column of invading armour that has been approaching Kyiv for days is now reported as being stalled without significant progress for at least 30 hours. Confirmed by satellite images.
Out of fuel ? Ukrainian attacks ? Mechanical failures, Russian crews defecting or running away ?

A couple of things:

1. What right does anyone have to block my access to RT - or any other media outlet?
I'm quite adult enough to extract the interesting bits from the propaganda.

2. The Ukrainians are claiming 9000 Russian troop deaths. If this is correct Putin can't let this project fail.
He is going to double-up with the bombing etc.
Also, the Russian troops might start fighting back out of fear or for revenge at some point.

If you own a satellite broadcasting system then you have a right to decide what is and is not broadcast on it. It is a private business, not a public service.

The physical situation on the ground is worsening, the simple weight of numbers and growing disregard for civilisation casualties pretty much guarantees Russian progress.

The economic and commodities situation is in uncharted territory and isn't getting nearly enough coverage on MSM. This will lead to greater supply chain shocks than we saw with Covid and could destabalise the global financial system.

It's also hard to get your head around the many hundreds of ICBMs Russia has, in silos, on submarines and on mobile launchers roaming around Siberia. These solid fuel rockets can hit anywhere in Europe or US within 20-30 mins with say 800Mt warheads - total city destruction. Going by what we've seen so far, I expect half not to respond to commands or to fail on route, maybe there's a chance some could be shot down... But even one would be devastating.

This risk is real as never before has Russia been on the receiving end of such unified economic attacks. We seem to think economic attacks are not as serious as kinetic attacks - I'm not sure. What we're doing to Russia is FAR more damaging that shooting down a few jets and blowing up anti-aircraft weaponry to enforce a no-fly zone.

Looking at the various news sources today, I would say that the West has effectively declared war on Russia.

I simply cannot imagine the Russian troops deserting en masse.

This is not going to end well.

Also, if things get much worse, panic buying ... and just raw panic .. may kick off in the UK.
This could be triggered by fears of a major economic crisis .. and, for some, fear of a shooting war outside Ukraine.

That could be well more than rumour. I saw similar in the running live updates in the Guardian. Apparently there is a special meeting by the Russian cabinet tomorrow to not only discuss the imposition of martial law, but also to look into the prospect of a draft. I'd be pretty worried if I was Russian right now...

I doubt that Russian troops IN RUSSIA will dessert in significant numbers, where would they go ? Russian troops in Ukraine might well dessert since escape is easy. Some have already deserted.

I am surprised that that that is no panic buying, apart from petrol, in the UK. Perhaps everyone has stocks from the covid panic.

Yep, it doesn't need to be NATO troops pulling the trigger to be a war. Why wouldn't Putin interpret the economic destruction dished out by the West as an act of war?

Good job you don't live in Russia then. I am sure a simple VPN will enable you to stream RT through an Indian or Chinese server.

Last I heard the Ukrainians were only claiming 5900 Russian dead. Russians report 498. I don't believe either figure. If he has lost 5% of his troops in one week and his main advance of conscript troops has completely stalled, I would hope that Putin might think he ought to be looking for a face saving exit. Unfortunately I don't think he will. However, with bad weather, limited road options, enemy action and the limited supply of delivery trucks in the Russian army, they are struggling even to deliver enough rockets and artillery shells to keep the troops busy.
