Our transport is heavily oil-based. What are the alternatives?

Hot traffic

Where the Energy Goes: Gasoline Vehicles:
https://fueleconomy.gov/feg/atv.shtml

Roughly 75% of the energy from petrol/diesel leaves the car as heat.
Only around 25% gets to the wheels.

It's basically a heater on wheels, which also moves a bit.
Was thinking of all those people stuck in a traffic jam today, in boiling temperatures, on a huge piece of tarmac.....
An electric motor is over 90% efficient and puts out no heat when in stationary traffic.

The move to e-cars might help reduce the urban heat island effect then. Removing large numbers of vehicles from the roads would also help as it would allow space for tree planting which is known to reduce urban temperatures considerably.

Many will be sitting there smugly well insulated from reality with the aircon on full blast!
