Floating Cities....

How will oil depletion affect the way we live? What will the economic impact be? How will agriculture change? Will we thrive or merely survive?

World’s First Floating City to Save Maldives From Rising Sea Levels

I wonder if there are plans for appropriately sized floating farms to feed these floating cities?

Seaweed and fish perhaps.

Perhaps they will live off fish and seaweed? Sounds like another moneymaking bolt hole for the ultra rich to me. Mind you each super house might have servants quarters as well.

Great minds think alike!!!

This idea won't actually save the beauty that is the Maldives but it might just leave a home for the population, if they can afford it, and if it can stand the new, more extreme weather that comes with global warming!!

And maybe appropriately sized floating wind farms and floating solar powered desalination plants
to provide energy and water......

Sounds like you would need to like sushi to live on one of these.

Recently I saw a program on the rubbish problem in the Maldives. While it was not related to floating islands per se it did introduce to me the problems they have with space in their country. They have a complete island for their capital, and another for their airport and yet another island for their rubbish dump.

I could see these floating islands being used as a tax haven but I think they will be too expensive for most people who will be too poor to afford them.

The poor will be living in the servant's quarters. Some of them anyway.
