Scary stuff, until you read Fullfact.org 's debunking of it.

A major incident has been declared in Essex amid fears the number of Covid-19 cases could overwhelm the county's health services.

The Essex Resilience Forum (ERF) said "growing demand" was putting stress on hospitals and social care settings.

Board member Anthony McKeever said the move was a "signal for help" being needed from central government.
Very interesting to see where this goes from here. Unless they shut down all schools and nurseries then the infection rate won't change much, but it is quite clear that the NHS is at breaking point in Essex. And w already know the number of serious cases is going to rise over the next 2 to 3 weeks. And the Nightingale hospitals, set up at a cost of hundreds of millions of pounds to deal with exactly this situation, are now closed down.

Got the actual data for bed admissions in relation to capacity for that have you? No, of course you haven't. What that report wanks on about is "infections". But, no actual data is provided for (a) bed admissions, (b) deaths or (c) a comparison of (a) and (b) to the annual average for this time of year.

"full fact"?

You really are as thick as a brick aren't you...
And you are happy to quote sources who share a stage with Qanon and David Icke ? The Fullfact site provides links to solid sources - check them.

Meanwhile, we're just about to leave home to say goodbye, through the window, to my mother in law who is about to die from Covid. The old folks home she lives in was locked down, but some clowns in Cardigan decided to go on a pub crawl after the mini-lockdown ended and spread Covid all around, it was only a matter of time before it got into the home, now 9 residents are ill, mother in law is unresponsive.

In LJ's small world, Cat, the old and infirm and the unlucky obviously have no value so he will have little sympathy.

Condolences to your family.

This is the most concise summary I have seen of why the first lockdown worked, and the damage it did too.

And as I have already told you LJ, no one is claiming the new variant is more deadly in individual cases. It doesn't need to be to kill exponentially more people. Over 860 dead today. Another 50,000 positive tests. We are now back to first peak numbers in hospital and dying, and we haven't had the full Christmas impact yet.

Local hospital has just cancelled all elective surgery.

Steady on, you've seem to have shared something accurate! No one has ever claimed it causes more severe illness. However that's largely irrelevant as I showed in my post a couple of pages back. The increased transmission is the big deal here. Exponential growth, with a large exponent rapidly becomes much bigger thing.

More deadly mutations are less serious than more infectious mutations. This seems to be the key point missed by most commentary.

I've repeatedly quoted directly from the pages you have linked to, pointing out the bits that don't fit with your theories, but for some reason you have ignored them. I've also pointed out the bits you accidentally missed from your cut and paste, like the "from the BMJ" where you neglected to include the "Dear Editor" first line.

Life is too short to re-read 500 pages, I recently wondered where exactly you lost the plot so went back to page 1, I think page 3 was the first time. I got to about page 15 then lost the will to go on, but from memory you've had whacko ideas about death rates flatlining because "you can only die once", then some strange mathematics suggesting that everyone who dies was due to die within a year anyway, then there was Sweden - we know how that turned out.

In fact, in 500 pages and nearly 12 months, I don't think you've been right about anything at all - that must be a record.

Thanks Ken, she passed away this afternoon. Her O2 saturation level went down to 56% and they couldn't raise it, she was unresponsive and on morphine. It was peaceful, which I'm glad for, having read some horror stories of people pulling their breathing tubes out.
