In North Dakota, a Republican candidates wins his election - nearly a month after he became one of the state's 596 and counting fatalities due to Covid-19.
David Andahl was diagnosed with Covid-19 and hospitalised for treatment, after which he passed away on 5 October. He was 55 years old when he died.

Yet results early on Wednesday morning showed that Andahl and another GOP candidate, Dave Nehring, had been elected for the two seats from North Dakota’s eighth district. Andahl took around 36 per cent of the vote.

Andahl won his primary election weeks before falling sick, and remained on the ballot even after his death because early voting was already well underway and the ballots could not be changed. According to local officials, around one third of mail-in voters in District 8 had already returned ballots when Andahl died.

Trump's two facedness is being shown by the fact that his campaign is calling for the sessation of counting where he is likely to lose if it carries on and the continuation where it is to his advantage. It could point to the parochial nature of statehood in the US of course.

A demographic analysis of the US voters reported in the guardian characterised the archetypal Trump voter as less educated, white, older, rural, evangelical Christian male earning over 100,000 dollars.

Why am I not surprised?

Presumably that article was between the 'range rover' and 'property in Tuscany' adverts.

Whatever the demographic what is terrifying is that 70 million Americans should opt for an extravagantly mad man to lead them. I have no great enthusiasm for "socialist" Biden but at least he seems to display some semblance of sanity and grace under pressure.

On a lighter note a friend who lives in Wisconsin says "There is speculation that there are plans for a Trump entertainment television network. Impartial news analysis, game shows and drama series like the Real House Wives of Maralago. Watch this space. These folk will be competing with the folk on the hill."

According to the Torygraph apparently "Boris Johnson will be secretly hoping for a Biden victory"!

I wonder how they work that one out?

The BBC and other media are reporting a Biden win.

Although a small percentage of votes have yet to be counted, enough votes HAVE been counted to declare the winner.

Biden may have won the presidency but the Democrats don't have control over Congress.

In which case Bojo must be ecstatic! No doubt he has sent a sincere, fulsome
and heart felt congratulatory message.
