17,000 people have died from the flu in England annually between 2014/15 and 2018/19 - with the yearly deaths varying widely from a high of 28,330 in 2014/15 to a low of 1,692 in 2018/19.

This was due to an extremely mild influenza season last winter. Which, in turn, points to this year being another whopper for deaths as all of the "dry tinder" succumbs from last year. So, it is an extremely reasonable assumption to make that this year would have been up in the 30k range in any event.

Add in to that the massive fall in deaths by heart attack and stroke due to those otherwise statistically inevitable deaths being swapped over into the C19 column, this more than accounts for at least another 10k or so deaths attributed to the Covid19 column. Thus, the number of extra deaths would be marginal.

Which is EXACTLY what has been seen.

This year's TOTAL deaths are barely above the yearly average.

On the BBC News, NHS putting Â£10 million into establishing special clinics to treat people suffering from "Long Covid". Many of these people are previously fit young people who presented with mild Covid symptoms.

Seems a bit ridiculous treating them for 'long covid' since "previously fit young people who presented with mild Covid symptoms" are the 99% of people they ignored, wouldn't test when they may have had it [if it exists], wouldn't take an antibody test for [I gave blood to a minor clown for unrelated testing in August - you still can't see a GP in the UK by the way, especially if you are male. The minor clown said she couldn't arrange a batflu antibody test even though my blood was already being sent to a haematology lab in a county hospital.]

I wonder why it is some folk here cannot just agree to disagree about their ever so precious opinions. Really, far too many hours ranting in front of a screen is not good for anybodies mental health and seriously impedes the usefulness of this forum.

When it comes to the stripping away of democracy and civil liberties won with the blood, sweat and tear of my ancestors, "agreeing to disagree" is not not going to happen.

By that logic, the Palestinians, should just "agree to disagree" with the views and actions of the Israeli State. After all, their "precious opinions" are only going to be deleterious to the Palestinian's "mental health" and "seriously impedes" the "peace" process .... right?

I would think this is just for setup and equipment cost as the staff and accommodation would already be on the payroll and every day costs would come out of current budgets.

These were not won just by "your" particular ancestors ranting and raving in fro nt of a screen.
