New coronavirus in/from China

Not at all. I've already offered two possible explanations - that the treatment of covid19 has become a lot better as doctors have learned about the new disease or that older people are taking better precautions.Little John wrote:You are literally pretending you can't see for yourself the relationship between infections and death rates over time?
I would laugh if it wasn't so pathetic
Both my explanations could be wrong.
What is your interpretation ?
So, according to a senior official of the Who, the total number of infected is massively higher than the total number of reported cases. An estimated 10% of the global population.
Well, no shit Sherlock, given that the vast majority of infections are asymptomatic.
Based on that estimate, I make that 1,050,000 dead, from 760,000,000 infected. That's a 0.13% infection fatality rate.
Overall, then, a bad flu season comparable to 1968. Just a fast moving one.

You are being lied to

But, then, it is quite clear now that some of you know this and don't care.

And you are turning a blind eye, LJ, to the differences that the "fast moving" factor makes to the severity of the problem just to follow your daft, conspiratorial political concerns.Little John wrote:.......................Overall, then, a bad flu season comparable to 1968. The fact that the pandemic was fast moving could have lead to extremely sick people being refused admittance to already full hospitals because of the much higher numbers which would have resulted from a lack of a lockdown. That would have put the death rate up!
And at the moment the disease is letting rip and the only reason that we haven't seen hospital admissions and death rates rise is that older people and those with comorbitities are being sensible and keeping out of the way. but it only takes a little mistake for someone in a risk group to contact someone else with the virus for them to catch it with potentially deadly results. The more people who have covid at any one time the more likely that is to happen so further lockdowns are a sensible thing.
If young people were a bit more sensible and thoughtful about others the degree of restriction could be a lot less and they could more or less lead normal lives, big parties excluded. They made the choice and are forcing lockdowns on government.
Action is the antidote to despair - Joan Baez
In precisely the same way that Remainers became competently un-anchored from reality and deranged in their thinking towards the end of the Brexit farce, the now rapidly shrinking lock-down cheerleader demographic is going through the same process. And you will face the same psychological crisis as the Remainers will further down the line when it becomes no longer possible to contain the dissonance between reality and your desperate need to not acknowledge you have been gullible fools.kenneal - lagger wrote:And you are turning a blind eye, LJ, to the differences that the "fast moving" factor makes to the severity of the problem just to follow your daft, conspiratorial political concerns.Little John wrote:.......................Overall, then, a bad flu season comparable to 1968. I would pity you and people like you for that - except for the fact that, like the Remainers during the Brexit referendum, you are f***ing up the future for the rest of us. And that future is going to be hard enough as it is without this pernicious bullshit.

Thousands of scientists and medical experts have signed a letter calling for the end of lockdown restrictions and a return to a herd immunity strategy.
The 'anti lockdown petition' as it has been called, has been signed by at least 50,000 members of the public, 2,500 scientists and 3,200 medical practitioners so far.

This might offer some insight as to why some countries/cities have been more effected than others/

Lots of people are getting infected (if we are to believe the Covid tests).
Lots of people are not dying.
That's called herd immunity.
A few more facts:
1) the death rate for this year is barely above the average. That is a fact.
2) There was a rise in deaths attributed to Covid19 early on in the year, almost entirely comprised of the elderly and already frail. This is also a fact.
3) The rise in deaths that were attributed to Covid19 was accompanied by an almost equally commensurate reduction in deaths by heart attacks, strokes and influenza. Want to guess which people normally die of heart attacks, strokes and influenza? Why, that would be the old and already frail wouldn't it.
4) The second spike in infections, which is now larger than the first, has been accompanied by a virtually complete lack of increase in deaths. This is also a fact. As I mentioned earlier, this is due to the rather blindingly obvious additional fact of the elderly and already frail being unable to die twice.

Why are you knowingly pretending you are stupid/ignorant of the facts?clv101 wrote:This is false, as you know. Why are you knowingly spreading misinformation?Little John wrote:The second spike in infections, which is now larger than the first,
