The 1918 flu pandemic was also said to be the first time that oxygen was used medically on a large scale.
It was not available everywhere, nor in sufficient quantities for everyone, but what was used saved a number of lives.
A few lives were also said to have been saved by early "iron lungs" that breathed for the victim. Such equipment was still largely experimental at the time.

"Installers and owners of emergency diesels must assume that they will have to run for a week or more"
One for LJ.
Interesting discussion on false positives.
Also where the UK/Europe may be getting it wrong.

Just like Spain, which is several weeks in front of the UK and has seen no significant rise in deaths alongside it's second spike, the UK looks to be following the precise same pattern.
This is a good thing. It will lead to herd immunity which is and always was the only exit from Covid19.
Anyone who does not now ask the question of why their government is using lies about the severity of Covid 19 as a pretext to strip away their liberties is either [misguided] (edited to remove unnecessary abusive and bullying language - K_L), after the recent democratic rebellions that have taken place in the West, being made to shut up and do as they are told again.

We know there's a 'lag' in hospitalisation cases and deaths.....
'Significant increase' in number of coronavirus patients in ICU beds across Greater Manchester:

That's not to say that I totally agree with the current lock-down strategy.

"Lag" my arse.
Take a look at the lag for February to June.
The spike in deaths, if it was coming, for the UK is already at least a week late for this second wave.
For Spain, on their second wave, it never happened over and above the marginal increase seen.
But, it's not just Spain and the UK for whom this is the case. wherever thee has been a second wave in any European country, the pattern is the same.
Check for yourself

The 71 "covid" deaths today being pushed by the MSM is another lie.
a) So far, this year, the total deaths, including Covid 19, are barely above the yearly average. And, even that slight increase is explainable by a relatively mild influenza season last winter, leaving a lot of "dry tinder" in the population this spring.
b) Deaths are still being recorded as Covid deaths if they have had a positive Covid test in the last 28 days. Indeed, Oxford university published a study two weeks ago which puts the number of people who have been erroneously misidentified as having died of Covid 19 as at least 1/3 of the total.
c) the people who have died will almost entirely have been elderly and frail, many of whom will have already been in hospital or been recently admitted to hospital for other chronic comorbidities
d) they have been forced to take a Covid test before they were even allowed entry to hospital - all in the context of a Covid test that is on the record as producing a 50% to 90% false positive result.
In short, 71 elderly and frail people died from any cause within 28 days of a (extremely dodgy) positive Covid19 test.
See the problem here?

I find it very weird how down here in Cornwall out of 500 tests at a meat factory 170 were positive for covid but almost none of them had symptoms. These tests were all triggered by track and trace for one single case. Meanwhile the same town (Pool/Redruth) is a big hotspot for covid cases.
Why are so many positive without any symptoms? This was certainly never the case for the common cold... or was it? I mean, we never really tested for asymptomatic cold cases.
Good thing I'm not into conspiracy theories, as I can imagine a few sci fi stories with a plot involving an initial relatively harmless virus that sabotages the body's defences for the more deadly stage two!
I'm always reminded of that two-part Star Trek Voyager episode "The Year of Hell" (how apt) where the enemy aliens kept attacking a seemingly inconsequential part of the ship, the significance of which was only revealed when the main attack finally came and the crew realised their self-destruct mechanism had been disabled by the previous minor attacks.

Coronavirus signs slashed and burned in lake district towns. Also increasing graffiti.

Slightly petty, of course, but enough to make the border itv news.
Also, a local councillor has come out and queried the over-the-top response.
The only star trek worth mentioning is TNG!.

Well, either the virus produces no symptoms in most people, or the tests produce a shockingly bad false positive rate.RevdTess wrote:I find it very weird how down here in Cornwall out of 500 tests at a meat factory 170 were positive for covid but almost none of them had symptoms. Viruses that produce no symptoms in most people are common. It's why HPV is so dangerous. Most people never realise they'd had it, until they get cancer.

In Johnson's case, politically, it was a positive for him. Sympathy, patriotism, and a distraction from the bad news agenda. No reason to expect Trump won't benefit similarly.UndercoverElephant wrote:Trump has tested positive .
Medically speaking, even though he's an obese 74 year old, he'll receive the best possible treatment from the earliest stage. He'll almost certainly be fine.
