Sir Jeremy Farrar, Director of the Wellcome Trust and member of the Sage committee speaking on BBC Hardtalk to paraphrase, "(the virus) is very transmissible and can be transmitted when no symptoms are shown" and "the idea that only a small part of the population gets it is wrong.". "We are in the early stages of the disease and only know about the acute symptoms and don't know about the chronic symptoms that even mild infections are producing".

The bloke is the director of one of the foremost medical research bodies in the world and an advisor on the Government's Sage committee so I would think that he knows what he is talking about on a TV interview, not the usual place to cite references. I will believe him over you any day of the week, LJ.

Ah, so that would be the one who, when interviewed on Radio 4 about demonstrating the efficacy of masks using blind randomized studies, said that he didn't put much store by such studies in this case.kenneal - lagger wrote:The bloke is the director of one of the foremost medical research bodies in the world and an advisor on the Government's Sage committee so I would think that he knows what he is talking about on a TV interview, not the usual place to cite references. I'm not kidding.
Meanwhile, did he cite, in this interview, the study or studies to back up his assertions? Can you cite a single study that has done so?
I mean, that really shouldn't be too difficult...right? Given that is the entire edifice of rationale for the legally coerced muzzling of non-elderly, non-frail, non-symptomatic and/or asymptomatic people in public places.
So, got any studies to share which demonstrate the widespread asymptomatic transmission of Covid19? That's before we even get onto the issue of the efficacy of paper masks or cloth face coverings.
Any at all?
If he did not say that, then what the hell is his rationale for the coerced wearing of face-coverings by non symptomatic or asymptomatic, non elderly and non frail people... you know... around 85% to 95% of the population?Catweazle wrote:Did he say that ? I assume it's to slow the spread of the covid virus, I can't see any other credible reason.Little John wrote:If he did not say that, then what the hell is his rationale for the coerced wearing of face-coverings by non symptomatic or asymptomatic, non elderly and non frail people... you know... around 85% to 95% of the population?Catweazle wrote:Did he say that ? Ah, yes, leading the world. South Korea has its contact-tracing up running in April.Coronavirus: England's contact-tracing app readies for launch
Slow the spread on what basis?Catweazle wrote:I assume it's to slow the spread of the covid virus, I can't see any other credible reason.Little John wrote:If he did not say that, then what the hell is his rationale for the coerced wearing of face-coverings by non symptomatic or asymptomatic, non elderly and non frail people... you know... around 85% to 95% of the population?Catweazle wrote: Did he say that ? The studies into the long-term effects are starting. It will be a while, but some early work has been published.

Yes, That'll be a subjective account.
I wonder if he will tweet when the refund is paid?

TBF I think he's highlighting something here which needs consideration, it's a pity that the official opposition aren't all over this. Do you think a refund will be paid?stumuz1 wrote:Oh Joly! the uber remainer on steroids golf club wielding fox murderer who tried every pathetic trick to stop us leaving the EU Moangham.careful_eugene wrote:Meanwhile, the Tory government has been doing what it does best by handing out profitable PPE contracts to their mates with little or no oversight. https://twitter.com/JolyonMaugham/statu ... 2145177600
