And no, I am not turning into RGR2 !
The more believable fictional accounts of TEOTWAWKI also refer to the shortage of ammunition.
Which is why it would be a good idea for any prepper to be able use and make a crossbow and eventually a long bow. I would prefer a long bow over a cross bow because the rate of fire of a long bow is much greater but it does require much greater skill and strength to use one. English bowmen started training long before their teens to build up the strength to use a 100lb plus draw weight bow by their late teens. A number of bowmen shooting together would reduce the need for absolute accuracy in a military scenario but the strength for arrow penetration and range would still need to be achieved.
Arrows and crossbow bolts are much easier to manufacture than precision rifle ammunition in our distopian future.
Senator Bernie Sanders is quoting an article on CNN and asking on Facebook why the US has only 4% of the world's population but 25% of the world's deaths due to covid-19. Trump's lies and incompetence according to them. And possibly the stupidity of his supporters in ignoring lockdown and social distancing.

I think this is right as well. A gun is only as good as its ammo supply. A bow or crossbow does not suffer with the same issue to anywhere near the same extent

That's a stupid thing to ask. As its not 'ravishing' the world equally. Even charities have switched tactics and started begging money for the disruption in supplies from covid19, rather than from the disease itself. It never did take off like the graphs suggested. I wonder why?
If you add up deaths from Europe and death's from USA, which is more and which has the bigger population?

Scotland has decided to make masks compulsory in Scotland in shops. It's practically disappeared but now is the time, rather than during the (not so high) peak. Nonsense, but only if you consider it solely within public health.
For me, its a way to continue fear-mongering, keeping people quiet by forcing them to don masks, another submission-gesture in the guise of taking the knee rubbish. And independence ( or rather eu membership).
I see they've also decided to delay lockdown lifting in border areas, due to the 'enormous' outbreak we're now experiencing. This 2nd surge consists of 10 people who are now self-isolating. Dumfries&Galloway had the lowest rate outside the islands. Again nonsense, until put in a wider political context.
But let's all play pretend the politician isn't politicking game.

Bernie is just flogging Trump as that is now America's favorite past time.
The numbers in terms of death per million of population are USA 396, UK 647, Italy 576, Sweden 532/M . All current and will of course change over time. It would not surprise me at all if the USA eventually gets to the top of that list. Demographics have as much to do with that as any government action or inaction.

Yep, your large black population may get hit the hardest if the theory about genetically based differences affecting the CFR due to vitamin D deficiency gets born out.

The lack of vitamin D, I would have thought, would only be a problem in less sunny climes like ours. A black skin in sunnier climes would have adjusted over the millennia to provide produce the required amount of Vit D. I don't think that rickets is so much of a problem in India whereas it has been a problem in those of Indian origin the UK.

There is a logic to this as during lockdown there were very few people out and about and the numbers in the shops which were open was carefully restricted so the likelihood of inhaling another's breath was very low. Now, with large numbers of people out and about and less restrictions on numbers in confined spaces the likelihood of breathing in others exhalations is much greater and the likelihood of transmitting the disease would be higher.
It is not fear-mongering as you say, Snail, but a logical safety requirement.
Black skin is less effective than white skin in producing vitamin D. In the tropics this matters not as the ample sunlight compensates for the otherwise less effective vitamin D production.
Black people living in the UK or the northern parts of the USA are at greater risk of vitamin D deficiency than are white people in similar conditions.
Some public health experts have gone as far to suggest that black people living in northern climates should routinely take vitamin D supplements.
Some experts believe that pandemics similar to the present covid outbreak may have occurred in ancient times, in medieval European cities with significant mortality.
Therefore todays white European populations are the descendants of those who survived plagues hundreds of years ago, and may therefore be SLIGHTLY less vulnerable.
Africa and Asia had few large cities until recent times, therefore less opportunities for ancient pandemics, perhaps leaving the present day populations from such places more vulnerable.

There are plenty of places in the USA with as little sunshine as here Ken. It's a big place.

That is not quite true although the effect is that. Black skin contains more melanin to combat UV light damage by absorption. As UV light is what produces the Vit D more of the light is therefore required in a cloudy climate and more northerly area to produce the same. Most black people who have lived in unfavourable areas for their skin tone undergo a lightening of the skin eventually which lets them produce a bit more vit D.
Milk sold in North America is fortified with vitamin D as are some other foods. Even with that my doctor prescribes a once a week vitamin D pill for me because I don't go outside enough in this age of computers and television. I don't think any brown American has any more difficulty getting the vit D they need then my lily white self does.
