And remember that most of their troubles pre-date the coronavirus epidemic.
The recent plague induced downturn is probably not reflected in the figures, which will only get worse.

Intu own both shopping centres in Nottingham. One of them, Broadmarsh centre is partially demolished and was going to be a massive new development in the South of the city, the centre was old and tired and still looked like it did in the 70's. Work stopped due to Covid and hasn't started again, I understand that the demolition company are now making people redundant.

Is the dream over for the man who built the Trafford Centre ?
https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk ... t-18473287

The Trafford Centre is John Whittaker's personal 'baby' and remained extremely popular, even with the march of Internet Shopping......
He's still worth £2billion - doubt he'd just let it go to the wall..., but some of the other parts of Intu might not be so lucky...

How many times have we said - the taxation being levied on DODGY TAX AVOIDERS and their like needs to be greatly increased - and quickly....

I remember a few 1970s childhood visits to the Broadmarsh centre. It had very strange things (mobiles?) hanging from the ceilings. It looked pretty dated even in the 1970s. I much prefer the Victoria centre. For sheer brutalism (sorry Prince Charles) go no further than the Mansfield Four Seasons centre just north of Nottingham.

On the subject of bankruptcies a famous (I had never heard of it and can't recall the name) Australian retailer of swimwear has gone bankrupt today. I guess swimming is just so last year.

I suppose there hasn't been much chance to smuggle buggies recently what with the lockdown.

It was called Seafolly and I suppose it was a bit of a folly in the end. As regards budgie smuggling I think the products were aimed mostly at the female market so I think if there was provision for budgie smuggling in their products then there may be something 'wrong' with the wearer. Actually, in these enlightened LGBTI+ days it is not wrong but simply an alternative lifestyle choice that should be given equal respect to all others.

Being redneck American I have no idea what smuggling buggies or Budgies involves or why women's swimwear connects but my imagination brings up some very naughty possibilities. :D

"budgie smugglers" is a slang term for a style of close fitting men's swimwear or sometimes underwear that shows the outline of the male parts. Smuggling of buggies was a typo intended to refer to the above.

I think it is an Australian slang term for what people in the US call speedos. And, yes, it was a typo for Budgie.

Isn't it good to not have a butthead butting in with an upbeat refutation of and optimistic forecast for its future?

Shhhhhhh! He can still read this and could rejoin under a new name. Mind you it would only take a few post before his inimitable style was again recognised. He might even disguise himself as RGR2!!

There are 12 users online at the moment but only two are registered, Adam2 and I, so we have no idea who those users are.
