Ground stabilisation netting?

Hi,

Does anyone know of a good UK source of that netting you see at trade shows etc which is used to stabilise turf so that cars can drive & park on it?

The products you require are generally known a geotextiles and come as woven and non woven varieties. Some can be driven on direct for short periods while others are designed to be used under a covering of gravel or roadstone for semi permanent or permanent roads.

I was looking at a building plot last year, and thought of using something like this for car parking, rather than a concrete or tarmac drive. I would have needed to have on site parking to keep the planners happy, so this would have have made the area multi-functional. A nice patch of lawn where the car was an unwelcome, but necessary, intrusion!

What do you want to do with it? There are acres of different types available, generally chosen depending on how often vehicles or people will use the area, whether its protection for a one-off event or something more permanenet, what type of soil, do you want it to be visible or not, etc etc.

Maccaferri also do quite a few products for general ersion control - they used to have some useful guidance on their web-site, but haven't visited it in ages.

What do you want to do with it?

Access to our new land is via a grass track a few hundred metres long.

The final 30 m of track and the first 50 m of the land are very soft ... not quite boggy but only just crossable with a 4WD on a damp day.

I want to lay some netting or whatever to allow non-slip access, twice a day for a light 4WD.

We will also need a parking spot for the car for the duration of the day, so it mustn't sink!

(We will only request heavy truck deliveries to be made in the peak of summer!)

Glad to see this subject raised, because I'm after somnething similar. This time it is to stop my donkeys from churning up their paddock during the winter. At the moment I use tree-bark from a sawmill, with limited success. I would like some sort of matting that would let grass grow through in the summer. Has anyone any cheap ideas?
