For those who don't know of Second Life, it is an online 'reality', where people can create their own character, interact with others, buy 'land' and build on it, go to the pub, etc. Essentially live a 'second life' in the online world.
I haven't experimented with it, so don't really know what it's like. It claims to have over 4m users. Basic membership is free, but I understand you can pay real world money to buy land and build. So, for example, you could create an online clubhouse / campaign HQ. Members could spread the word to others they meet, hand out virtual leaflets, organise a march, etc.
I'm not 100% sure of the cost for land, but if we had 20/30 members, it would probably be $10/20 a year per head to establish a base, and then we could grow it in size if we got more members, quite possibly reducing the cost per head.
Does anyone who knows more about Second Life, or uses it already, have a view as to whether we could use it to raise awareness of PO?

It's a bit like an IRC chat room or Instant messenger, except you can roam around a 3D world.

I would say that it's not worth it. I'm counted as one of the 4M "residents" because I downloaded the client and entered the world for about half an hour a couple of years ago (I've not been back since).
