I see Powerswitch as much more then just a "peak oil" website. All forms of energy are discussed here along with a host of other issues from politics to permaculture. The members here have interesting and varied points of view about any subject one cares to bring up. If you want to talk doom you will get it from soup to nuts but that is far from all that is available here.

I really do think some folk on here should chill out a bit, try and be a wee bit less laughingly pompous, take themselves a little less seriously and be a lot more respectful of other folk even if they disagree with them. if they behave in real life the way they do here they could do with a major kick up the arse and really are the nightmare folk I really do not want to be stuck in a lift with thank you very much.

I do as well. It took me watching them for awhile before realizing that the hymnals being used aren't about the gospel of peak oil.vtsnowedin wrote:I see Powerswitch as much more then just a "peak oil" website.
No different than the other "I was a peak oil doomer once" websites as well. Although admittedly, they have died off faster than the folks who once populated them have, in most cases.vtsnowedin wrote: All forms of energy are discussed here along with a host of other issues from politics to permaculture. Which is why I always read your posts, even though I often skip other peoples.vtsnowedin wrote:I try to keep my posts readable.
If I post a link I copy and past the most interesting paragraph or two to let the reader know what it is about but not the whole article.
If I respond to a post I hit the quote function but then delete all but the point I want to take issue with and all images to not waste space.
Fully referenced facts about Covid 19. But not the ones our state and corporate broadcasters will be telling.

No it hasn't "eliminated" Covid 19. It has simply got rid of all current cases of it in the country. But, so long as international travel continues in and out of NZ, it will reappear.UndercoverElephant wrote:New Zealand eliminates COVID:

Unless, of course, there are permanent changes to freedom of movement and of right to assembly..... All in order to "protect" us, of course
In which case, that is not going to happen, here at least in the UK, without blood being shed. That much is f***ing certain.

Arizona are now publishing serology tests, only 3.5%.

Once you've managed to zero community spread, preventing any further significant outbreaks is just a case of deploying a decent testing, contact tracing and isolation process. Something they really should be able to do. More challenging for London.Little John wrote:No it hasn't "eliminated" Covid 19. It has simply got rid of all current cases of it in the country. It will be more challenging for any similarly large, sprawling, urban conurbation. As will it also be for any country with limited resources. And, as long as those things remain true, such measures will literally need to run for years as Covid 19 travels in circles around the globe. The only exit being when herd immunity is reached.clv101 wrote:Once you've managed to zero community spread, preventing any further significant outbreaks is just a case of deploying a decent testing, contact tracing and isolation process. All that any of these measures is doing is stretching out the process to the same destination. But, at massive social, political and economic cost with all of the attendant health costs they imply.
A decent test/trace/isolate process need not have massive social, political and economic cost. Stretching out the process is no bad thing either - it avoids overwhelming the health system and increases the likelihood of developing effective treatments and vaccine.Little John wrote:All that any of these measures is doing is stretching out the process to the same destination.
