So almost without exception we remain crouched in lockdown, a frozen state that addresses our terror of death by banning nearly everything that makes life worth living.
Oh nonsense.
This hiatus is a time for reflection & reorganisation on a personal, social, political & economic level.

The lockdown has been very pleasant for me personally. I have started a programme of repairing and redecorating my home that hasn't been possible the last 7 years because of my children's behaviour and my work commitments. The lockdown coincided with a hiatus in my career but my income from property has not been affected, our tenants have not been affected financially and not requested rent holidays.
I am concerned that the lockdown has been bad for my younger daughter's mental health longer term, but her behaviour is not too difficult for now
I recognise that the future will be a lot harder for most people, and there is no guarantee that I will continue to be so forunate. I think the NHS will never really recover from this.

There is such a thing as netiquette.
Screens are more suited to many small posts rather than massive chunks of text.
Why do you think that Twitter has been so successful with its character limit per message?
Why do you think that the TL;DR acronym was invented?
I don't expect to buy a book only to find it contains half a page of triple spaced text.
I also don't expect to have to read web posts the size of aircraft carriers.

I've just read the article posted by Little John. Very informative and well written.
If you don't want to read it, don't read it!
Twitter on the other hand is totally irrelevant to me (and lots of other people as well)

I see Vortex's point.
If we all post the full text of the links we post, this forum will become unreadable.
There is nothing to stop us clicking on a link. It just manners.

Possibly because there are a lot of people on it from very different backgrounds with very different life experiences and outlooks. It is what makes it interesting and sometimes very volatile.

If you are only willing or capable of digesting bite sized pieces of information, you have two options;
I try to keep my posts readable.
If I post a link I copy and past the most interesting paragraph or two to let the reader know what it is about but not the whole article.
If I respond to a post I hit the quote function but then delete all but the point I want to take issue with and all images to not waste space.
It is a conversation and if in person you would not start a comment by repeating verbatim all of what another person said if you wanted to challenge a point.
I get annoyed by spelling and grammar Nazis and those that think their point of view is the only valid one to exclude any and all descent.

Quite. You post the most germane paragraph that supports your point. The rest of the article is tangential to the point you have just made.
However, you have given us the courtesy of further perusal.

Yep

Frustration at being trapped in a peak oil website when what you REALLY want is just run-o-the-mill doom mongering. Climate change got shuffled off to a back burner pretty quick when the chance for global pandemic doom swam into view. This thread is like..LEGION. Doomers gotta doom is all.
