They are armed because they are allowed to be.kenneal - lagger wrote:This article shows a picture of a "political" protest in the US over the Covid-19 lockdown. Anyway, I agree with Ken's sentiment.

RGR - are you happy that this is the way that the US conducts business and projects itself to the rest of the world....?

The protesters were exercising there first and second amendment rights. It was for all the rebel flags being displayed along with arms being carried a peaceable assembly.Mark wrote:If you're going to quote, at least quote the right person....ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:You have lived here for how many years?Mark wrote:There is no comment in the article about the armed nature of the protest either as if it is perfectly normal to go to a political protest armed to the teeth. I haven't said anything about whether they are allowed to do it or not so your second sentence above is a load of rubbish. I am merely questioning what sort of state allows people to intimidate their local government by rocking up to a political demonstration armed to the teeth.ReserveGrowthRulz wrote:They are armed because they are allowed to be. The inference of turning up to a demonstration toting assault weapons and a confederate flag is "do as we say or we will launch an armed revolt."
Why on earth did they need arms then if no one was going to attack them? It must have been to intimidate their democratically elected politicians. Hitler launched an armed revolt in Germany which led to him gaining power. Is this the sort of thing that we will see in the US? Gun toting right wing nutters imposing their will on the nation through force of arms. And it's all in the constitution!!Why didn't you mention that for all the firearms, no one was shot and killed? You constantly argue that just the ownership of such things leads to their use....you see any use on anyone in that article? Me neither.
I haven't and I wouldn't want to either whether I owned a gun or not.You have lived here for how many years?Kenneal - lagger wrote: There is no comment in the article about the armed nature of the protest either as if it is perfectly normal to go to a political protest armed to the teeth. My answer stands. They are allowed to carry firearms to a political demonstration the same as they are their wallets and purses. Your attachment or fascination of one inanimate object or another is your fascination, nothing more.kenneal - lagger wrote: I am merely questioning what sort of state allows people to intimidate their local government by rocking up to a political demonstration armed to the teeth.

The 'defence' provided by RGR is total madness - democracy can never function properly if the elected officials are having AK47s waved at them
Imagine the same outside the Houses of Parliament or our local Councils ?
But in the US, the President, many elected Politicians, the 'Christian' Right, the NRA and much of the establishment would agree with RGR.
Remember, they're making America great again.
& they've got their finger on the red button...
America's gun culture in charts:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-41488081
As well as all the death stats, what I noticed was there are 120.5 guns per 100 people, far higher than any other country.
You can only fire one at a time, so those good 'ol boys must have pretty big arsenals...., maybe they're expecting another civil war...?

There's no point in arguing about this, anyone who lives in a country where someone will try to shoot them for what they write on an internet forum is going to carry a gun for defence. The genie is out of the bottle and there's no putting it back.
Thankkfully we didn't pull the cork, so when a pandemic threatens us we buy vitamins and toilet rolls, safe in the knowledge we won't need half a case of .45 ammo to defend them.

The governor could have walked outside and talked to the folks with the guns with no more fear than those carrying them have. The possession of an inanimate object that you are scared of does not mean that everyone else feels the same way.Mark wrote:The 'defence' provided by RGR is total madness - democracy can never function properly if the elected officials are having AK47s waved at them
