Did my shift on ward yesterday. Nothing out of the usual other than a mention to 'stay vigilant' during initial safety briefing. No chat about WuFlu amongst doctors and nurses. Immunosuppressed patients seemed subdued, but that is nothing new.

Spent this morning manically cutting carpets for laying in rushed refurbishment of hotel at Heathrow.. This world is f***ing mental.

Given the uncertain or variable incubation time would not today's deliberate exposure bring you into the hospital more or less just as they collapse?
I think we are too late on getting ahead of the crisis and best plans are to put off exposure as long as possible to come into the system if at all when they have ramped up facilities and the first wave has passed through one way or the other.

Now the NBA season has been postponed probably because of this. WTF?
A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools - Douglas Adams.

Schools, colleges, and childcare facilities in the Irish Republic are to close due to the coronavirus.
Meanwhile in the UK, very little action to prevent spread.

That is an issue yes. And they could have missed the boat.

Well.. being an egoist/narcissist/psychopath are almost prerequisites for the job. Or, at least, for anyone who would be likely to want the job.

Hello all. Aeons since I last posted on powerswitch although I do call in from time to time to keep up to date.

I work in the construction industry and it's all looking very wobbly out there. Contracts being postponed, contractors getting jittery. I forecast lots of pain going forward. We'll be ok (small husband and wife consultancy with no employees and no debt) but many won't.

Most pertinent question - do i go to London tomorrow for a meeting (using the tube)? I think I know the answer to this :D

if you want to be certain of not getting infected. I would say no. Out of interest, how old are you?

Slightly the wrong side of 50! Fit and healthy. I'm almost thinking it's better to get it over and done with. Of course, I would regret that if I was at death's door in 2 weeks time....

The pressure on the government to act is immense. Stock markets are crashing hard again, but if they continue to delay then they risk accusations genocide.

I can see your logic Barney. The self employed and private employees will keep going until the risks are obvious. If I was you, I would go now because it's only going to get riskier. Take a sanitiser and get back quick.

edit - can you lay low for a week when you get back - homework?

We have precisely the same dilemma. I sympathize.

I am 56, I work in the care sector with very vulnerable people with mental handicaps. This is further compounded by the fact that my specific client group are all elderly with huge numbers of comorbidities and they require personal hygiene services daily. I cannot wear the kind of protective clothing that would provide adequate protection due to their incapacity to understand and the extreme distress such measures would cause them.

But, I have to work.
