Yep. My family went to visit my very sick mother in her new nursing home yesterday, but that is it. We're offline now.
Did you cancel your foraging course? We've just cancelled an event we were hosting on Sunday, at personal financial cost.

Jeremy Hunt (ex health secretary) said he expected the pandemic to peak in about two weeks.

Matt Hancock (current heath secretary) said this was incorrect and the peak was still some two months away.

Both cannot be right.

Using Vortex and Little john's spreadsheet two months (day 60ish) will see the entire UK and more infected.

Who is nearer the mark? Hunt or Hancock?
Hancock, unless very serious restrictions are implemented this weekend.
Did you get that the right way round?

Hunt probably just misspoke, meant 'start of the peak', whatever that means!

Haven't decided on that one yet. It is outside.

Err, OK.

Anyway it doesn't matter what HMG says : we shall get some graphic warning from Italy over the next few days when their health service melts down ....

I totally get why people are attending such parties right now. It is entirely rational. They have worked out, just like us, that their medical system is going to be overwhelmed in weeks and they also know their chance of catching this virus at some point is high. All of the above being the case, the very best time to catch it is either right now or in many months time.

With a pic of the helpful guy behind this. Grabbing two manky escalator rails. Without gloves. Yup, he's certainly best off indoors.

Not necessarily correct.

They would have had a 70+% chance of being part of the population who will murder them anyway. Also, if they know the precise date on which they contract it, they are far more likely to be in a position to self isolate at the appropriate time and so infect far fewer people, if any, including their grandparents, as compared to when they would catch it later unknowingly and so infect many people, including their grandparents, in the incubation period

So all those at the party will do that, will they?

I've no idea. But, I might hazard a guess that if they have had the intellectual nous to make the kinds of calculations I have mentioned they are also likely to know how serious this virus is. In turn, on that basis alone, they are at least as likely to self isolate at the appropriate time than people who contract this virus unknowingly. More so, if anything I would have thought.

The point I am getting at here is that this virus is out. It's out and it is going to infect as many people as it is going to infect and there is absolutely nothing whatsoever that can be done to stop it. If an individual knows that and knows that the medical system is gong to be overwhelmed in a matter of weeks, it is an entirely rational action to seek to infect oneself right now. Plus, this has the added virtuous bonus of, in doing so, having the opportunity to self isolate right at the point of infection and so being far less likely to unwittingly infect others than if one catches this virus unknowingly.

What's more, once immune, they are safe to help the hospitals or wider community. Much like what happened with recovered Ebola patients.
When you're dealing with exponential growth, the time to act is when it feels too early.
