History shows that will be the most likely case. When there is a crisis cash is king.Vortex2 wrote:

Cases double to 500 in 1 day in South Korea. I am becoming fatigued. Quietly waiting for a disease to arrive which might kill my spouse or even orphen my mentally ill children is stressful. Until a couple of days ago spouse did not take this as more than more of my doom mongering, whilst we need to play the risks down for my over sensitive children. We can not go into lock down with our responsibilities to our children, but we have no plan B if the worst should happen.

Gidday Mates!
Sober sensible talk here, from Down Under - the land of No Worries and She'll Be Right.

Never gonna happen from official sources, for fear of stampedes.
There's a loud alarm going in the building, but because of past false alarms, people are dismissing it, or looking at each other, unsure - rooted to the spot by peer pressure.

Some thoughts:
1. Most of us will be exposed to the bug one day so protective measures need to have a purpose. The main one is to delay infection so we avoid the initial rush. If we can stay safe for a year then we might even benefit from a new vaccine or medication.
2. Ideally we should all be exposed to the virus tomorrow so in four weeks time most of us can go back to work for Business As Usual. Unfortunately there are not enough ICU beds etc to handle that.
3. Or we could modulate the progress so it takes so two years to work through the system. We would then have enough ICU beds etc to handle the stream trickle of sufferers. Also, a vaccine would probably appear at some point. The snag is we have no sensible way to control the infection rate : we can't all live in biohazard suits for two years.
I think this means we survive as best we can in the short term - mainly to avoid The Rush. Within a few weeks of that, businesses will start to reopen and a sort of risky Business As Usual will resume.

Beg to differ. History shows that when banks and the mega rich criminally engage in economic fraud, they will be bailed out by debasing the currency.vtsnowedin wrote: History shows that will be the most likely case. When there is a crisis cash is king.
In the US you are now on QE4. Although nobody will admit it.

It seems to me that other countries are taking this more seriously than the UK.
In Israel for example, a large number of Koreans were not allowed of a flight from Korea, they had to remain on board and return. Only Israeli citizens were allowed to disembark, and they were quarantined.
I presume that the UK is still welcoming flights from Korea ?
In Italy, towns and districts are being isolated, with no one allowed in or out without exceptional reasons. This to be enforced by the police and "IF NEED BE, BY THE ARMED FORCES" Cant imagine that in the UK.

Some musings:
Just been for a wander around town:
1. Tesco seems well stocked with everything. Tinned soups etc may be a little down - but not by much. Checkout girls said she has seen no signs of people mass buying stuff yet.
2. Went to Boots to see if anti-viral foam was back in stock. Nope - but the sales guy was very helpful and led me to the last few bottles of anti-viral gloop dispensers .. which I bought of course. He also mentioned that Boots staff do NOT use Boots protective products ... they buy their stuff from a totally different medical wholesaler ... whose name he declined to reveal. The sales girl then said I was lucky to have found the hand gloop as they have already sold out once. I also bought some paracetamol and ibuprofen - the sales girl strangely suggested that I buy more ... what does she know/suspect?
3. Went to Costas - the young staff seem more concerned about the flurry of anti-Chinese racism in New York rather than the disease itself.
4. BBC Radio 4 discussed the Italian virus situation this morning. LBC had the Italian situation as their leading news items. The story is now getting out!
