I think that they have learned a lot from china.

When you put it that way, yes. They've learned from the masters!

In which case, the rest of us should assume the worst and act accordingly where possible. Assume HM Govt stats are no better than China's - especially if there are asymptomatic cases which are undetectable anyway.

Can't remember if I posted this earlier. Apologies if I did.

GP surgeries and dentists make everyone use touch screens on arrival!! With a 50/50 chance of contamination straight off, with the Male / Female question, followed by reducing odds when keying in month and day of birth. I'm going to use small strips of bin bag covering my fingertip. To then place in an (unused) dog poop bag as if it were even more hazardous than dog poop. Which it may be. Using my own pen and clipboard to sign for prescriptions. And definitely no reading of magazines in the waiting room. Where I'd probably stand.

And what's more, I've changed my mind about the risks of contactless payment. And if over the amount, the credit card PIN keypad will also get the plastic strip fingertip procedure. Not that I'm planning any shopping after this week.

Hand sanitizer, don't forget to wash the bottle in your hands as well. You can always spike it with more alcohol.

Well, now we now at what point the NHS will be in trouble:
The NHS has the capability now to cope with the very highest level of intensity and isolation with 50 cases and the capability to expand that to 500 cases and to do that without an impact on the wider work of the NHS.

But of course, if the number of cases get bigger, then we will need to take further steps and as he knows from his time in my shoes, there are extensive plans already in place for how that should happen if we reach that eventuality.

Given the very large number of people who travel from Brighton to London every day on very crowded trains and then onto very crowded tube trains, if the virus is well spread in Brighton I would expect it to spread to London very quickly and then out into the suburbs at an equally fast rate.

VT, I don't think your government is incompetent, it's your system which would cause the problems. People in the US are going to be very wary about going to see a doctor in case they get landed with a very large bill and government departments are even more cash strapped than UK ones are after our austerity measures.

Your collective hatred of government spending means that your government is more likely to be incompetent than one where people have a respect for the work that some government departments do. The US spends more then the rest of the world put together on defence and that seems to work quite well.

Patcham Nursing Home in Brighton confirmed on Tuesday that it has "closed to all visitors" after one of the infected GPs visited a patient there.

Oh, what could possibly go wrong here!

Trouble is, it is probably already too late. Only needs one resident of the nursing home to have been infected and they'll all get it. And the staff. And their families.

I wonder if HMG will declare a state of emergency, or whatever a state of emergency is now re-branded as.
AFAIK, any such still requires the approval of HM the Queen, though I presume that HM acts upon advice rather than personally considering the merits or otherwise of the governments views.

What next?
Two prisoners are being tested for coronavirus in Oxfordshire. The men are inmates at HMP Bullingdon, near Bicester, and are being kept in isolation.

Imagine my joy when I recently saw a headline that read 'Alcohol kills Coronavirus'.

Only to read past the clickbait headline, to see they meant ethanol sprayed on worktops etc. For a fleeting moment there, I thought I was immune. 8)

That's exactly what happened in the 2018 BBC4 Contagion! doc narrated by Hannah Fry. (Not on Youtube, alas.) She was the index case, and the spread across Haslemere, then into London and beyond (all on the volunteer participants smartphones) - this gave the mathematical modellers some new insights into movement and spread.

There are a lot more people travelling from Brighton into London than Haslemere and there are also a lot more students in Brighton than Haslemere (Two unis to none!). Students going home at the weekend or at the end of term would send the virus all over the country. It's all a question of timing. Students are probably a lot closer to their mobiles than the average middle aged resident of Haslemere.

Interesting article. Doesn't look like this is being managed properly.

Combined with the other apparently virus-free ship still unable to dock anywhere (something's got to give?) much of this industry worldwide may run onto the rocks over this. No bad thing, apart from for the crew's jobs.

if you use plastic over your fingers, the touchscreen wont work as it uses the electrical conductivity of your skin to work

All surgeries should have alcohol hand washes available so if you use it before and after using the screen you should be safe.

Trump has apparently recently tweeted that coronavirus will disappear once the heat comes in so there's nothing to worry about. Next thing is he will be saying that Global Warming is good for our health!! Twat!!!
