Vote on the Withdrawal Agreement before Christmas with exit on 31st Jan. Does anything actually change on 1st Feb though? During the transition period trading arrangements remain unchanged and UK still follows all EU’s rules and rulings of EU courts, but no say on rule making. This period is meant to expire in Dec 2020, 12 months really isn't enough time to establish comparable trading agreements with the EU.
What chance an extension? Does the EU mind us extending the period? We still pay, we are in a period of rule taking rather than rule making. But, of course Johnson's highly unlikely to request an extension.
Guess we'll soon find out what 'Get Brexit Done' means!
The civil war in the tory party is over, and the anti-EU wing won, forever.
The large majority that Johnson now commands means he no longer has to reply on the ERG and DUP to back him. In turn meaning he can fanny about for the next 12 months softening Brexit without needing to fear their wrath.
Meanwhile, entirely predictably, the Blairite talking heads are appearing all over the media insisting that the result had nothing to do with Brexit and was all to do with Jeremy Corbyn's "style of leadership" - which is, of course, Blairite code for him being too left wing. Next up, I'm expecting the petite bourgeois, Momentum-types like Paul Mason et al to come on and insist it was all due to racist, knuckle dragging, northern gammons voting against their own interests. In other words, nothing to do with Brexit or, if it was, it was Brexit's fault.
The truth, however, is that the British people really don't like having their democratic decisions pissed all over.
Who'd have thought it eh.

Absolutely true, it was thrown away by the arrogance of MPs. I will not celebrate a tory win, or the end of socialism. 80% of Corbyn's christmas list would have improved the UK, but they refuse to face immigration, and you are not allowed to do that in the EU.Lord Beria3 wrote:Greer forecast that if Labour had embraced a proper/hard Brexit we would be staring at a Labour majority now.
Hopefully Corbyns legacy is to improve the labour party mix, but they are a long way from representing the average person.
The truth is, "left-wing" liberal Remainers prioritized stopping Brexit over stopping the Tories. And the reason for that is because they are selfish, self-aggrandizing, petite-bourgeois bastards who thought they knew better than the rest of the electorate to such an arrogant extent they believed they could piss all over our working class votes on the assumption we would just keep voting for Labour out of political habit. Never mind the warning signs in the form of the election of Trump and Brexit itself. Never mind the clear and unambiguous will of the British people vis a vis membership of the EU as expressed in the Brexit referendum, the 2017 General Election and the 2019 EU elections.
Never mind all of that. Because Remainers thought they knew best. Obviously. And they have lost. Again. Obviously.
And now the rest of us must pay the price for their blind, smug arrogance.

The only problem I have with this is that you think I am one of those people, and I am not. I have consistently maintained that the result of the referendum needed to be respected. I just personally wasn't willing to vote tory to make sure it happened. What I have not done is condemn anybody else for voting tory to make sure it happened, and my loathing for the Jo Swinsons of this world is no less than yours. Her arrogance was mind-blowing.Little John wrote:The truth is, "left-wing" liberal Remainers prioritized stopping Brexit over stopping the Tories. What you and those like you have done is to systematically fail to understand that the most vulnerable people in the poorest constituencies in this country have consistently voted voted since 2016, via the only routes made available to them, to ensure their democratic wishes are respected. They did this because they understand, more than most and certainly far more than people like you, that the one single weapon they posses to enact any real control over their lives is the VOTE. It's all they have and they understand only too well it is the single most revolutionary weapon they will ever posses.
But, politically/intellectually arrogant buggers like you thought it was okay for the Labour party to piss all over those votes on the basis that the thick buggers would just keep on voting for Labour because that's what their grandad did...right? All on the basis of your conception of the "greater good".
