At least supporters of XR are not being manipulated,as woodburner is, by the oil and coal companies that make themselves a fortune from destroying the environment. You would think that with his intellectual superiority he would be able to see who is manipulating him.
On the other hand perhaps his intellectual superiority is only in his own head and he's just gullible conspiracy theory fodder after all. He probably believes that smoking doesn't cause cancer. After all the same people who say that say that climate change is a hoax.

Oil and coal companies make a fortune extracting oil and coal...consumers then destroy the environment by burning the stuff.kenneal - lagger wrote:At least supporters of XR are not being manipulated,as woodburner is, by the oil and coal companies that make themselves a fortune from destroying the environment.

Yes they are being manipulated Ken. There are lots of different and opposing factions in our ruling class right now. Just because you or I may have strong opinions on ecological issues,, we should not let that be our blind spot.kenneal - lagger wrote:At least supporters of XR are not being manipulated,as woodburner is, by the oil and coal companies that make themselves a fortune from destroying the environment. I have told you enough times KL that Gail Bradbrook has a much bigger interest in corporate expansion, 5g particularly, than claimed climate problems. XR is no more than an exercise to assess the gullibility of barely informed people. Seems to be working. I note you are still able to make state ments about my supposed beliefs, not based on fact of course, merely your random ridicule attempts from the school of answers that cannot be questioned. It doesn’t work of course, as I know what you are up to.

This sort of stunt, and the failure thereof shows a lack of even basic technical knowledge and common sense.
The plan was to spray a large volume of fake blood at a government building by means of an old fire engine.
The protestors lost control of the hose due to the "jet reaction" from the high pressure water.
A better planed protest would have included some or all of the following.
1) Practice in private first.
2) Select the protestors for size/weight/strength and have at least two protesters on the hose.
3) Use only a modest pressure so as to make the hose easier to control, the engine speed is adjustable.
4) Consider not using full size fire hose. Instead use the hose reel equipment with which most fire engines are equipped. This narrow bore hose is intended to be controlled by one person. The flow rate is reduced, but that extends the run time from the water/red dye carried on board.

You appear to operating under the assumption that logical, prepared, and thoughtful people were involved? Is that often the case with mindless stunts designed to attract attention, get on the local news, make some cool social media video?adam2 wrote:This sort of stunt, and the failure thereof shows a lack of even basic technical knowledge and common sense.

"10 arrested as police raid extinction rebellion London headquarters"
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-49946821
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand I have considerable sympathy for the aims and concerns of ER.
OTOH it seems clear that illegal protests were planned, and the police have been criticised for not taking effective action at previous protests.

The article seems to indicate happiness on the part of the protesters, because they consider it proof that they are being taken seriously. So if they are happy about being busted, then let the bobbies keep doing it!adam2 wrote:"10 arrested as police raid extinction rebellion London headquarters"

There are many things that should be practised in private first.
Having said that they should have had some understanding of Newtons first Law.
I would be interested in where they got the Fire Engine from and whether it was exempt from the congestion charge or was correctly taxed and MOTed.
Interestingly on that same BBC website is a video of an out-of-control airport service wagon that I also thought was very humourous.

Getting people arrested is one of the goals of Roger Hallam. He keeps telling the police they need to arrest more of the demonstrators, and the processing of so many newbie criminals will hopefully lead to breakdown of the system. If it also causes peoples’ deaths, then that is also acceptable. Hallam is an extremest, but he does keep in the background and let his disciples take the rap.

Here's where your information ultimately comes from, woodburner. A billion dollar industry funded by US fossil fuel companies. It's actually old news from 2013 but you obviously missed it.
You have been conned, woodburner, by an industrial scale scam designed to keep the money flowing into a few very deep pockets. The overwhelming majority of climate scientists, international governmental bodies, relevant research institutes and scientific societies are in unison in saying that climate change is real, that it's a problem, and that we should probably do something about it now, not later. And yet, for some reason, the idea persists in some peoples' minds that climate change is up for debate, or that climate change is no big deal.
Actually, it's not “for some reason that people are confused. There's a very obvious reason. There is a very well-funded, well-orchestrated climate change-denial movement, one funded by powerful people with very deep pockets. In a new and incredibly thorough study, Drexel University sociologist Robert Brulle took a deep dive into the financial structure of the climate deniers, to see who is holding the purse strings.
According to Brulle's research, the 91 think tanks and advocacy organizations and trade associations that make up the American climate denial industry pull down just shy of a billion dollars each year, money used to lobby or sway public opinion on climate change and other issues.
