Funny how events can change the course of history. Supposedly the English Civil War was triggered by a brief period of Barbary Muslim piracy off the coast of the UK around 1625 as at that time Royal Navy was run down by the extravagant king Charles I (or was it James I). Without the brief period of the Commonwealth in the British Isles there would have probably been no United States as we know it today.

My reply to that article:-

While I agree that climate change is one of the drivers of the problems in the Middle East, another major one is the Islamic civil war between Sunni and Shia moslems. Another is the rapidly growing population fuelled by the lack of education of women, which education has had a marked effect in checking population growth in all other nations where it is available. That over population must be a major driver of migration pressure in lands where there is a water shortage.
I also agree that climate change will make many countries unlivable but it is also going to reduce the ability to support people in other areas too. In Britain we already only grow about 50% of our food, although with a major change in eating habits that could increase. The latest Zero Carbon Britain report says that we could be 80% self sufficient, assuming, I presume, keeping our present population. This report does not, as far as I can see, take into account any reductions in land area or growing ability caused by climate change and rising sea levels. 
With rising sea levels worldwide putting many food growing areas under water, the Nile and Mekong deltas for instance, there would be a drop in food production worldwide which would impact on our ability to import enough food to feed our current population, let alone a population increased by mass immigration. Faced with the choice between starving and taking many more migrants I think that most of the people of Britain would regard the sea surrounding us as a moat and be happy to keep newcomers out. Having said that we should do all in our power to help those migrants to live somewhere where there is a chance for them to settle and grow enough food simply to ease the migration pressure on our shores.
My interpretation from what I have read and seen on the TV is that a mass migration on the scale which Nafeez and I envisage will be resisted by the indigenous populations which the migrants come across in their journey and violence will ensue. The carrying capacity of the earth will reduce significantly with global warming and some people will die from either hunger, disease or violence or a combination of the three. It will become a case of "me or thee" and only the most determined will survive.

I forgot to mention the Ganges delta, or Bangladesh, which could disappear losing the livelihood and food production for over 800 million people. India has already built a wall to keep them out of their territory and Myanmar is evicting Moslems already so they don't seen to be welcome there either. Conflict looms then!!!

Agree with everything you just wrote! Greer has written similar things in his blog and various books.

Nafeez is on the left and so in my opinion can't bring himself to accept the logic of where we are going which you summarised so well in your post.
