I used to watch his programmes as a child and was always enthralled. He's possibly the reason why I have a small holding today, thinking back, and also that I lived on the edge of several thousand acres of wild/farm land in north west London where we would go feral in the school holidays, summer and winter. What we called Barn Hill is now the Fryern country Park.

Excellent trip down memory lane there.

I remember doing exactly what was done in that clip in the mid to late 1970s going with an old 'poacher' who used to do odd jobs around the village. He would also do hedge laying and other country arts. Putting the nets around the rabbit holes and with the dog. There was only two of us that day and from memory we only netted one rabbit. Most escaped. Having ferrets was still common among the children at my school and I can remember being bitten by one.

Interestingly this man did prison time for threatening someone with a shotgun. Some people moved to the house next to him and the wife seemed to like taking the michael with him and one day he cracked and out came the shotgun. He had an excellent knowledge in the country crafts. I should think he is probably long dead by now.

Also I watched an excellent program about 'crowing' as well which I also used to do.
