I have got the impression from somewhere that subtropical forest doesn't retain as much carbon as tropical rainforest. It would also be interesting to know if that increased forest area includes areas which have been burned by forest fires over recent times. Also does the CO2 emitted by forest fires cancel out the CO2 absorbed by new growth subtropical forest
