We have found a smallholding after a mere 5+ years!

Post by Vortex »

We have had our house valued and just about to be put on the market in the hope that we could find a smaller house with more land.

However ... yesterday we heard through local friends of a 5-acre plot coming on the market not far from our house.

After the fastest negotiation in the world our offer has been accepted!

So ... provided the paperwork goes through OK .. it seems that we are about to become smallholders!

Cancel/postpone one house move!

(The neighbours will be glad to say goodbye to any chickens, ducks & goats in our garden!)

Yep - but we will have a quiet sit first to plan what we do ... no madly rushing in!

Well done Vortex! I'm quite jealous actually - the wife & I are planning to do the same thing in the next few years.

Plan ahead - and use every contact you have to find land!

Forget about the low typical agricultural acreage price ... I think you would need to buy 200 acres to get down that low!

"Landbanks" & builders are also buying up land as an "investment".

Charlotte & her stock broker Dad usually outbid you on anything under 10 acres ... they need space for Prancer, her pony.

Rich Daddy who spends too much time at work will give in eventually ..

That's great news, I am SO JEALOUS! Mike will be too, we are desperate to get on with this too.
Let us know how much hard work it is! might help us all to be patient in our own hunt!
All the best

We have also just found out why so many people hold large chunks of agricultural land ... there is NO inheritance tax on it!

I have created quite a few traditional HTML web sites (no frames, no CSS, no Flash, optimised JPEGs, fast load times ... my users LOVE me!)

... but I haven't tried a blog yet ... is it easy?

That's all I meant really, just a simple online journal. As you've probably seen, my page is just a few pictures with explanations, the only 'blog' on there is to do with the way the garden is developing.

Just something so that we can all see what you are up to, and weep . . .
