Looks like that is just an online operation nowadays.
Not sure that Maplin would be able to compete as an online retailer given what they currently charge.

I gave up on them when they stopped stocking many items like screened audio cable in the shop. "Oh you can order it online and pick it up at the shop in a week" I was told. More sense to order online and have it delivered!

Micro Focus is a big employer in Newbury and its demise would hit the town although less demand for housing would be a good thing; might keep prices stable for a while, but I doubt it. It doesn't seem to be in too much trouble according to that BBC news item.

John Lewis has already predicted its own demise if its non tax paying competitors are allowed to get away with things for much longer. Hopefully the government will sort things out with a point of sale tax with no get outs.

I can't imagine much hardship in the M4 corridor. There are lots of tech jobs chasing London, Bristol and army work.

The AIM-traded company said it was committed to resolving cost issues after changes including the opening of a warehouse facility in Skelmersdale and increased labour costs from new plants in Blackburn and Leyland have led to a 50% increase in cost base, excluding input costs.

How does cost-cutting exercises result in an increase in costs?
