Yeah, I'd second Linux, I haven't owned a Windows system for over a decade. Windows simply isn't the 'essential' platform it once was.

As an aside, with Microsoft dropping out of mobile space and their productivity applications rapidly losing ground to online/cloud platforms, the company is fast becoming irrelevant. One critical aspect is the 20-somethings joining the workforce today are now more familiar with the Android/iOS platforms than Windows (which many will only have used for dull IT lessons in school) and totally comfortable with apps and working in the cloud.

The Xbox seems to be the only part of the company with a bright looking future.

I think the Wannacry virus/worm/whatever targeted old windows machines also so another reason to go Linux.

I use Windows for work and mac otherwise. I have not been creative enough to get Linux on a laptop as yet.
