Peak Curtains!!

Post by kenneal - lagger »

This article says that Ikea is saying that we've hit Peak Curtains; people have stopped buying stuff! Could this be related to the fact that less than 100 billionaires own as much as half the rest of the world's population so that those poorer people don't have any money to spend? We're maxed out on debt so can't buy any more mostly useless STUFF!

Yes, obviously the 62 people who own as much as half the world's population have already got perfectly nice curtains.

And a curtain-waller to draw them.

I can't see any of those coming to a High Street near me any time soon. I can't see many *ankers, who are about the only people who could afford them, wanting to wear them either.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that the fashion world has gone completely gay! I'm not homophobic but my tastes, and most of those on this site, I would think, are somewhat different to those of gay fashion designers.

The desire for stick thin models in the fashion industry who look more like little boys may be related to this as well.

You're not the first person I've heard saying that. I hope it's not regarded as homophobic to point out what a PITA it is for us girlies with figures that look like girlies.

Oh and can we have clothes with proper pockets, please? Women have been allowed to carry money for quite some time now...

Meanwhile: Is self-optimising crap degrading the internet?

https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2018/03/ ... ke-the-web
The report comes with ten “Future Shock scenarios.

...

One of these scenarios, “A Tangled Web, is deceptively simple: it imagines the proliferation of Artificial Intelligence “weeds that take over the internet and slowly choke it off. These weeds are low-level algorithms gone rogue, that gradually spread throughout the cyber infrastructure, capturing ever expanding space and energy.
