We haven't quite passed peak insanity. I was at a tip today. I am rarely there but I was giving my wife a lift to the next town [our town closed it's tip - progress I assume] in our 13 year old tiny car and filled the hatch as we have been doing improvements to the house.
In a small town of 10 - 20000, they fill a skip about daily, with flat screen TVs and other electronics. No old CRTs, 1 old PC and lots of shiny black TVs that look no more than a few years. Nowadays TVs are so versatile, you can connect old tech and new to them. I felt ill to look at it.

Someone dumped a perfectly serviceable leather-clad 3 piece suite near the Plot. I wouldn't mind but the morons did it on the eve of Brian so it promptly got soaked & is now no use to fish fowl or feathered friend.
Why the feck can't people use freecycle? Or take it to the tip: the tip's free for individuals (as opposed to businesses).
i rarely go to the tip and it's nearly always someone else's rubbish that I take and even then friends say it really must be rubbish as I never throw anything with a use or anything with a value away. Ours is also a small town and I see the same thing that fuzzy has mentioned and it's perhaps made worse knowing how long this waste has been going on. Back in the 70's and 80's my father worked for the council at what was then a tip and incineration plant ( the incineration went some 20 years ago) . Barely a date went by without him bringing something home. I wouldn't even try to guess how many vacuums and lawn mowers that needed nothing more than a new fuse he brought home and we had bikes of all shapes and sizes. Add to that clothing , books , household goods of all sorts ,antiques , even full unopened bottles of spirits and postage stamps. He brought it all home , well except for the six foot high pile of , ahem , gentlemans magazines , and I suppose we recycled or upcycled it not that it was ever called by that term and after thirty years in the building industry with its waste it's perhaps no surprise I can't walk past a skip with having a good look.
Working in the waste industry I can certainly relate to what both fuzzy and lurkalot have posted.
I have heard of stories of nearly new tellies furniture etc being taken to the tip - and have also heard of people who have rescued such things as a music desk from being crushed. It is insane.
I have also worked on food waste projects and that is equally bonkers. I have heard of a whole turkey being shoved into a food waste caddy just after Christmas.
If you don't need it don't ****ing well buy it

How busy is FreeCycle in your area now?
I found that following a pointless proliferation of 'free' sites there isn't the body count there used to be on FC. I've tried to get rid of half-a-dozen perfectly usable items without a single response.

I think local Facebook groups have replaced a lot of other groups like FreeCycle.
Your best chance at giving good items away is to families that have lost a house to fire or other disaster. What you have may not be their style but it will do until they get back on their feet and greatly appreciated.
