Very important book
https://www.DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.co.uk/Anthropocene-G ... 1138821241
I have just received this today, and read the first chapter and the epilogue. This is a book that should be of great interest to everybody who posts regularly on this forum. It is way ahead of almost everything I've read previously, either in print or online. It is really a book about philosophy - the philosophy of the Anthropocene - or more correctly (IMO) the Anthropozoic. It is an attempt to lay the groundwork for a total rethink of the humanities in the context of an acceptance that the impact of humanity on the global system is now not just of geological significance, but of deep geological significance. Start with the assumption that what humans are doing is at least as significant as what the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs did, then rethink politics, economics, environmentalism and philosophy.
It is aimed primarily at a technically-advanced audience, and as a result anybody who is not schooled in philosophy may find some of the language and ideas hard to follow.

It's a shame there's no preview pages, so we can get a flavour of what you mean for ourselves.UndercoverElephant wrote:anybody who is not schooled in philosophy may find some of the language and ideas hard to follow.
I have a list of around a 1,000 books I have to read; this has been added.
I experience pleasure and pains, and pursue goals in service of them, so I cannot reasonably deny the right of other sentient agents to do the same - Steven Pinker

Anthropocene
Homo what? Oh, sapiens, yes
Chimpanzee in fancy dress
Then one day it started farming
And ecologically self-harming
Millenia passed; it never learned
Fiddled while the planet burned
Cleverest ape there's ever been
Anthropos of the Anthropocene
Cue battlecries, Silent Springs
Summers of Love and hippy things
Environmentalism's birth
Jonathon Porritt's “Save The Earth
Save the Earth? Save it from what?
Whatever's in danger, Earth is not
Ah, back in the day when I was a Green
And nobody mentioned the Anthropocene
Times have changed, we have to admit
It's far too late to dodge this shit
Stare the monster in the face
Karma for the human race
There's a whole new era dawning
Old one's over, I'm not mourning
Come to terms, feeling stoic
Not Anthropocene but Anthropozoic
Cleverest Ape there ever was
Caring, sharing Anthropos
Didn't want to read the runes
Sowed the wind and reaped typhoons
Environmentalism? Empty shell
Green-blue planet? Terrestrial hell
Rock and hard place, inbetween
Anthropos of the Anthropocene

Steve I think this is a bit of faux modesty!Little John wrote:I write a bit. But nothing good enough to post.
You write very well about things that matter.
All right ye go a bit overboard occasionally but then who of us do not?
