Trump Emissions
It seems folk are so focused on the UK election spectacle that Trump's rose garden performance, where he confirmed how much he has been bought by big oil and big coal, has gone quietly unoted.

Well I certainly noticed it. Most regrettable in my view but I refrained from comment because,
1) It was widely forecast and was therefore hardly news when actually announced.
2) I can not do anything about it.
3) I think that severe climate change is unavoidable no matter whom signs what treaties. When the arguments are over, I believe that ALL economically recoverable fossil fuels will be burnt to the serious detriment of the climate and thus spell the end of modern civilisation as we know it.

To be optimistic, it might not happen in my lifetime.
And even when it does, I do not forecast the extinction of all human life, but I DO forecast the end of todays technologically advanced society.

I pretty much hold the same point of view. Agreed Trump's announcement was no surprise and the Paris agreement highly flawed. However the continuing Trump narrative of enemies without, walls surrounding the lager and total resource exploitation and use is eerily reminiscent of the Easter Island story. What is more concerning it fully squares with the warped end the world rapture nut jobs vision.adam2 wrote:To be optimistic, it might not happen in my lifetime.

Have you come across "Waking the Giant" by Bill McGuire? A frightening analysis of the effect of global warming on volcanos.Potemkin Villager wrote:I pretty much hold the same point of view. Canada is evolving an interesting strategy for dealing with the USA: bypass trump altogether! Sorry I've lost the article, but basically they are negotiating, for both commerce and climate agreements, with individual firms, states and cities.
They have squadrons of killer "nice people" going into the deepest States to do this, who seem to be quite successful thus far.
