Have the PC police (administrators) been interfering here? Yesterday these links were clickable, now they don't work, and why? Because the thought police have stuck an extra "w" in the address rendering it broken. This is pathetic, or are we subcontracting the moderation to the Chinese government?

This will have the negative effect of stopping some of the lazy b*****s who read this forum from finding and purchasing the books. Well done, a shot in the foot.

Your post was a legitimate criticism of my post. I was having a go at people for a perceived wrong and you saw a perceived wrong in what I had said. I started it so left myself open to that criticism.

When I remove a post it is only because I don't think that it contains a fair or legitimate criticism or that the post is expressed in an illegitimate fashion. I do try to be fair to all sides in this for the benefit of OUR forum.

I am not anti anyone on this forum (at the moment - there have been occasions in the past where it has been agreed that a person has been trolling and we have removed, after extensive enquiry and warning, those people)I hope others will read this and understand as well.

I think I can say that Adam2 acts in the same way.

My thanks for your thanks.

We have had a long term policy of removing any advertisements from the forum. We have allowed the quoting of sources of stuff that might be useful. However there has been much criticism, and not just by me, of the particular source of books that you quoted. The admins therefore made a decision, at my instigation, I will admit, that this source of books and other stuff should not be allowed to be advertised on this forum.

Several other ethical suppliers have since been proposed by various members so I feel that this ban should be continued. I do not feel that we have shot ourselves in the foot as this discussion has resulted in the recommendation of one, in particular, ethical supplier. I think this discussion has resulted in a win for ethical trading and a loss for a decidedly unethical one so I for one propose that we continue this policy.

Sorry. We did not find any results for "man swarm" on Waterstones.com

Search tips

Try using fewer or less specific keywords
Double-check your spelling
Not so f**king straightforward when they can't provide a f**king listing for us f**king lazy people. I couldn't really use fewer f**king words and the F**king spelling is a bit difficult to get wrong.

I don't think it helps to have an offensive tone of voice, does it? Or is this a new requirement for mods that the others haven't caught on to yet?

Generally this world (or nature come to that) is not just or fair, it just "is". So you can beat me up if you see fit (or just (or fair)) I bought mine from "Wordery", who list it on DODGY TAX AVOIDERS.

PS do you use "google"? Buy products from any of the "Kraft" or "Nestle´" groups, use "Unilever" or "Proctor and Gamble" products? They may or may not have agressive tax avoidance schemes, but they certainly buy quite a lot of palm oil. Is that fair or just in your world?
You can buy direct from Wordery at www.wordery.com without going through that other nasty company and giving them the legitimacy that they desire.

But If I hadn't looked at Brazilian river suppliers, I wouldn't have found wordery.

I wonder if the ethical book suppliers do their shopping at Tesco!

Most of us have "dirty hands" either directly or indirectly, so I see your attitude of censorship a bit high handed, especially when it will shut the door to some who don't dig deeper, or is this just put down to "collaterol damage"? If people don't want to buy from river suppliers, they don't have to. Calling them a nasty company is just expressing your opinion (I might happen to agree with it, but it doesn't alter the facts).

Can you tell me of an ethical search engine so I don't have to use the nasty ****** or the nasty ****?

Oh dear! I have just found wordery accept money via the nasty paypal, does that make the purchase subject to the censor's pen?

There's nothing like deception dressed up to the nines. I see Startpage gets a high rating which is partly a bit rich. It's just a front end for google, and I use it a lot. It's main point is it does not store the user's IP address. Other than that I don't see it's ethical at all. I wonder how many of the others are questionable.

Take a look at Yacy peer to peer search engine. I do hope this reaches critical mass. It's an amazing idea.

Wandsworth prison has 50% foreign population, who can't speak English. The report showed some scumbag pickpocket saying he'll carry on doing the same when he's released. An option would be to send them to Iran and let them try the same shit there......

I tried it. Unfortunately, I regularly use a search in need of accurate results on relatively obscure topics, and yacy wasn't in the ballpark. :-(

As if a continuing increase in world population won't stall the economy eventually! It makes me dispare sometimes how these economic journalists, and economists, have no idea about how their idiot policies and thinking affects the world we have to live in.

They think that the human population lives in isolation to everything else and has no effect on and is not effected by the natural world. Nutjobs, the lot of them.

Sharia law has a certain attraction when you see people like that pick pocket! Try pickpocketing with no hands!

There's no need for the 'deception' jibe at all, it does you no credit. You could just ask EC politely how they judge these things. They're human beings after all and don't deliberately make mistakes or deceive.

Startpage does a great job - a single job, it's free plus has no adverts. And its raison d'être: anonymity. A great advantage becomes very apparent when you search for an image - judging by comparisons, Google censors these quite heavily, even with filters turned off. SP manages to bypass Google's in-built, errmm, prudishness.

What could SP do in order to make it more ethical?
