Yes, but even so.. Folks who have lived here all their lives are even complaining! We've basically had the jet stream sitting over us since the beginning of May.

Poland’s power grid cut electricity supplies for industrial users for the first time in more than two decades as a nationwide heat wave entered its second week.
The reduction was scheduled to start at 10 a.m. Warsaw time as power prices for next week jumped to the highest level since December 2010. Grid manager PSE SA will hold an emergency meeting at 1 p.m. to discuss the situation, according to its website. Warsaw temperatures soared to 36.6 degrees Celsius (97.9 degrees Fahrenheit) on Saturday, a record for August, AccuWeather Inc. said on its website.
“Unrelenting heat” will continue to affect much of eastern Europe this week, according to AccuWeather. The hot weather is cutting power production and hampering electricity transmission as low river levels result in cooling restrictions, while higher demand for air-conditioning squeezes the reserve margins required by the system.

Monthly global temperature anomaly in Feb was a record 1.35C exceeds previous record by 0.2C.

That is based on the 1951-1980 baseline, a period which already had higher than pre-industrial temperatures

Previous global record was last month.

The jump in temperature is far higher than the last 'super el nino' year of

Comments sections in on-line 'newspapers' are always depressing.

The closer a population is to the downwash of an unstable dam, the more denial there is in that population about the possibility of the dam breaking.

In the face of persistent extreme danger, the human instinct is to ignore it. This has evolutionary advantages in the long run, as catastrophic events are generally indiscriminate, so survival of a behavioural meme is based more on short term population success and less on long term preventative behaviour in times of crisis.

So attempts at building sustainability are futile once the danger becomes apparent. A better strategy will be building resilience and flexibility in the face of uncertainty, but that is also a risky strategy, as it assumes there will be time to adapt.

Well I, for one, will do my bit to warm the place. Think I will go down Aldi and buy some Chilean Kiwi fruit packaged in plastic.

This is a bad article. It's wrong to conflate the +2C climatic warming over the whole planet with short period, over a smaller area.

With the March data in, there's now >99% chance of 2016 being a new record hot year.

Dangerous temperatures in India arrive earlier in the year than previously.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-india-36026171

Such conditions have occurred before, but this is atypically early in the year for such events. The hottest part of the year is yet to come.
Made worse by severe drought and water shortage in much of India.

Will the number of births still be about 26,000,000 for 2016 though?
