Biff, your love of a border free world is affecting your intellect. Either that or you have a strange sense of humour. Cheap labour of itself doesn't lead to new jobs. It probably has a deleterious effect as it decreases the wages of a nation and decreases its spending power leading to a loss of employment in the retail, manufacturing and distribution sectors. The reduction in the tax base then has a deleterious effect on the public sector as austerity measures are introduced which then adds a negative feedback into the public finances.biffvernon wrote:...except that if the cheap labour were to move to the rich nation, there would be an opportunity to collect income tax and benefit from that larger numbers directly participating in the economy. What has happened in some of the Gulf states is that low-wage labour has been imported allowing the natives to swan about in luxury while the immigrants do all the hard work.
Now, of course, I'm not suggesting any of this is a good thing. Far from it. But it illustrates the flaw in the idea that an influx of cheap labour is detrimental to the host population.

Could the larger number of NI numbers be anything to do with multiple benefits claims?Little John wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -work.html
It would certainly seem to suggest that EITHER the number of migrants is much larger than is being admitted to, OR that significant numbers of these migrants are obtaining multiple NI numbers presumably to claim benefits more than once, or to work under one number and claim benefits under another.kenneal - lagger wrote:Could the larger number of NI numbers be anything to do with multiple benefits claims?Little John wrote:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -work.html

Refugees are us. The only difference is that they weren't clever enough to be born in a safe and affluent part of the world like we were.
Doesn't look like it is going too well for Germany's integration of the migrants.A leaked confidential police report in Germany warns of spiking refugee crime – including drug and sex offences – and a rise in radicalisation against the state.
The report says 'immigration will lead to more crime and increased police usage' to combat it.
The number of crimes – of violence, sexual, property theft and narcotic offences – will rise, says the paper of the North Rhine-Westphalian department of the interior whose 'Immigration' project involves both individual states and central government.
The document, entitled 'Challenges To And Impact On The Police', was leaked to news magazine Spiegel.
Utter tripe. Those people are economic migrants, not refugees. They could claim asylum in France tomorrow, but they think they are entitled to British citizenship. They are not. Their human rights are not being abused. They have chosen to put themselves in that position. If they were genuine refugees then they'd claim asylum in France.biffvernon wrote:A woman speaks up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4htzWBcvRU&app=desktop
My bold. Check it out on the map...Slovenia has introduced new border restrictions for migrants as part of efforts to close the Balkans route from Greece to Western Europe.
Only migrants who plan to seek asylum in the country, or those with clear humanitarian needs will be allowed entry.
In reaction, Serbia said it would close its borders with Macedonia and Bulgaria to those without valid documents.
The future of the EU's passport-free Schengen zone is already in doubt...
