civ101 - its early days. My reading of his campaign is that he is moving into Sanders economic populist territory (his last debate performance was remarkable on its populist tone and attacks on George Bush record) and is now actively courting soft Democratic voters.

Its only February and the election is in November. That is a long time in politics to hammer to the public a economic populist message of change on a mass versus elite narrative.

Snail - I fully agree with you.

The only way to break the grip of the 1% on our political system is to raise the very real threat of a popular uprising from below. It could come from the Left, but Sanders isn't the man to deliver such a thing, as you need a leader with a almost Leninist steel to confront such powerful forces.
So you think a one percenter born and bred will lead a popular uprising to overthrow the one percent?

8) Snail you have an interesting take on things but I do not think we have the luxury of time on our side. The next president elected will be in office for at least four years and that is far too long considering how fast world events are changing. We need to put the best possible leader in office now or we are in deep do do.

I don't know vtsnowedin but 4 years isn't that long a time. If she wins events will probably continue to ramp up, and americans are going to have to deal with trump next time again anyhow.

Win or lose I think Trump is a one time phenomena and won't be around for the next election at least not as a candidate. Four years is a very long time in today's fast changing world. Wars begin are fought and end in less time.

 Well Trump won again last night in Nevada and even though the delegate totals are still small many are saying it is over.Super Tuesday March 1st will most likely decide it for real. The establishment is in a panic.

He's too mild for my liking but I suppose you have to be mild to get elected in america.

The walls a start deporting 11 million is something although he talks about letting people in again .

I think Trump can beat Hillary but it is too close to call between him and Bernie. Bernie will have to explain his math on the things he wants to do and Trump will have to go beyond just declaring he can get things done and explain how he intends to do it. I'm hoping Bernie has a good day next Tuesday. Hillary needs a good slap down.

Robert Reich: Are we witnessing the death of America's political establishment?
Robert Reich wrote: Step back from the campaign fray for just a moment and consider the enormity of what’s already occurred.

A 74-year-old Jew from Vermont who describes himself as a democratic socialist, who wasn’t even a Democrat until recently, has come within a whisker of beating Hillary Clinton in the Iowa caucus, routed her in the New Hampshire primary, and garnered over 47 percent of the caucus-goers in Nevada, of all places.

And a 69-year-old billionaire who has never held elective office or had anything to do with the Republican Party has taken a commanding lead in the Republican primaries.

Something very big has happened, and it’s not due to Bernie Sanders’ magnetism or Donald Trump’s likeability.

It’s a rebellion against the establishment.

Yep. Whatever else you might think about Trump, one thing is abundantly clear: he ain't no ordinary politician. In fact, he's not a politician at all. And that, along with having lots of money, is all he apparently needs to win the Republican nomination.

It's over. If there was a clear challenger then things might be different, but with the opposition split and Trump coasting to victory? Nah, it's over. The only question is whether he faces Clinton or Sanders for the Presidency.
